Kiryl Relikh is a 26 year old Light Welterweight with a 21-0 19 KO's record. Born in Baranovichi, Belarus and fighting out of Minsk. To be perfectly honest, I don't know a damn thing about Kiryl other than he's trained by Ricky Hatton, who for some reason has taking a liking to Belorussians, since he also trains recently KO'd Sergiy Rabchenko, and somehow he's managed to get Kiryl a shot at Ricky Burns freshly won title. While this is a huge step up from any of his other opponents, who have mostly been obscure Euro level journeymen or fellow prospects with padded records, that doesn't change the fact that Relikh has got some decent skills, and Burns may find himself ending up with another Zlaticanin on his hands. He cuts off the ring very well trapping opponents instead of following them, he has a hard stiff thudding jab, that he frequently drops opponents with, his left hook to the body is savage, he has a decent straight right and right hooks well, he seems naturally heavy handed, he can swarm opponents or be very accurate and measured in the pace he sets. One drawback he's defensively average, he attempts tp roll his head and shoulders when in against light hitting guys and high guard defense when in against decent punchers. Kiryll reminds me both physically and stylewise of Ievgen Khytrov. How far will he go? Who knows, but he looks good enough to give the Rickster his fair share of problems, or maybe he'll prove to be a total bust and be an easy defense, regardless, the match is intriguing. I am really dissapointed because of Belarus boxing. Neigbhours/cousins from Russia and Ukraina are extremely successful, and current Belarus boxing is very low...Sadly........

You shouldnt ,mate! Belarus is a giant in martial arts.Belarussian teams have been hightly successful within the last 25 years both in kick boxing and muay thai boxing. The Belarussian muay thai team is among the best of this globe-they even beat Thailand' s elite fighters in a team contest.Big nations like the UK,Germany,Italy,Spain,Canada,Australia and many many other nations cant hold a candle to Belarus' extremly skilled kick boxers and muay thai fighters.
Pro boxing is just not popular at all in Belarus.Even guys like Kovalev or Ward or Wilder are quite unknown in Belarus. There is really no market for the pro boxing circus in Belarus.
As for amateur boxing it for sure cant be called the most popular sport in Belarus.Ice hockey is still the undisputed nr.1 sport in Belarus. However, amateur boxing is surely more popular than in almost all western european country as it is considered to be a manly sport for men and boys.It doesnt have the negative image there as it has in many western european countries.
Last but not least lets not forget that money is the name of the pro game and there is no money to earn in the belarussian market for any pro fighter.
My favourite fighter is still Sergej Gulyakevich. He has been poorly promoted and hasnt earned a lot in the pro game but he had the potential to be a great name in his weight class. He still fights in pros but he is too old now to make some noise and a bit over the hill.Nevertheless,a well-prepared version of him who has time for a trainings camp still beats the **** out of almost all his rivals IMO.I just love his style.A pity that he wasted his precious time travelling from abroad to the underdog against foreign fighters in their backyards or beating up totally unheralded no-hopers on smal fight cards on native soil.
You see,the right passport, the right nationality,an excellent coach, money for a trainings camp,a western promoter, and so on are decisive factors to be a very good pro who can earn more than just a few bucks in the pro circus.
Thats why most excellent amateurs beat the **** out of a good pro. They just fight the very best on a regular basis. As a pro very seldom do you fight a great rival and money is the most important factor in the pros.
Gulyakevich could have been a champ,a pretty good champ with all the necessary factors.

Yes,there is! We are small country with hospitable people, clean streets, almost no street crime, beautiful women(most westerners get a cultaral shock when they enter Belarussian soil as they are used to see their slopply dressed womein in the UK,the USA,Germany or France),very few immigrants and a very different way of life compared to many western europen countries.
You should pay it a visit! European and American visitor are always welcome to Belarus!:good
