1. Wlad has fought weakish opposition. Your comparing Byrd and Ibragimov to
Johnson? Firstly Byrd is a blown up middle who wasnt strong at middle and lost to Calazage in the Ams and got destroyed by a LHW. Ibragimov just wasnt very good in the first place.

Johnson is naturally stronger than Byrd, is naturally a harder puncher, is a far far better counter puncher, better inside fighter and just all round better

The best counter puncher fought was Sanders. Johnson doesnt have Sanders power, but his right hand would land because its such a well timed crisp shot. We've seen a fat old short Toney nearly take apart the Heavyweight scene with slipping and countering

3. Things Johnson does better than Wlad:

Countering - I think this is the most important skill combined with a defense that will make Wlad miss by slipping the jab and firing a right counter is what will rack up points.

Shot picking - very underrated part of boxing, picking the right shot at the right time and timing it perfectly. Johnson was a master of this

Footwork and keeping distance - something again ignored allot, Johnson is excellent in this facet and combined with his shot selection, handspeed and skill

Inside Game - fighters always come together, inside Johnson is just far better with his inside work, Wlad is getting better

Throwing the uppercut - Johnsons uppercut is his trademark

Combinations - yes something you said Johnson couldn't do. Johnson would put lightening fast cominations together to good effect, notably past his prime against Willard, who is stylisticaly similar

Speed - Johnsons allot faster than Wlad with his shots

Clinching (you downplay this as a strength but we've seen plenty of fighters using the clinch effectively in the modern era) - Ali, Ruiz, Hatton.......

Natural Strength (bare in mind in todays era Johnson would pack on a few pounds of muscle) - Wlad has weak weak twiggy legs, thats why his chin is weak

Relaxation - the best fighters are relaxed and dont burn nervous energy, Wlad is not relaxed hes tense and this plays against him. Johnson is a very relaxed natural fighter

Your making the mistake of saying because Johnson usually fought smaller fighters he couldnt cope with bigger men while ignoring the fact Johnson was very impressive against the 3 biggest men he faced

 

Wlad has been knocked down and out by all sorts of styles of fighters: straight fast punches from Sanders, out-toughed and blasted out by Brewster, outlasted by Purrity, put on his ass by wild looping punches from Peter. Knocked down by the light punching Williamson.

Are these fighters all a lot better than Johnson? :huh

 

Honestly I find it fascinating that that some here are actually trying to make an argument aligning Johnson with Chris Byrd, a blown up 168 pounder and that the robotic, weak winded, china chinned Wlad who was knocked out by Ross Purity, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster beats Jack Johnson ... I suppose his brother beats Joe Louis ....

 

You say that as a joke, but there are people here who seriously believe the Klitschkos would beat Joe Louis.

 

I dont think ur giving sanders enough due. he wasnt just the greatest counterpuncher klitschko fought, he was the greatest counterpuncher who ever lived! were talking about super southpaw freak of nature ATG corrie sanders, he doesnt lose in fantasy matchups!

I think Johnson really exposes vitali flaws.....he would toy with the giant, make a fool out of him. vitali might even quit on his stool and claim an injury.


Wlad vs johnson is interesting..but wlad with that pawing jab of his and new lazy style, i expect johnson to have no problems picking off the pawing jab and to frustrate wlad on the inside to the point where he might have another panic attack late in the fight.

 

These kids today actualy think that to jab sombody for the entire fight is a plan.

 

I think the 1990s offensive powerhouse wlad who actually had snap in his jab matches up much better vs johnson than the new wlad. The new wlad will be trying to beat jack johnson at his own game, and thats not happening.

Sad, how often johnson gets underated.......if only people got to see clear footage of johnson during his coloured title reign, i think they would be more appreciative, than the fat obese running across the world old jack johnson that most see.


Johnson with his shoulder rolls, Upperbody feints, clinching skills, cross armed shell defense, Flurry punching.... helped modernize boxing in certain ways.. I think johnson had the style/tools to use his style and if he fought in modern era to high his gaurd a bit and twitch a few things and hell be unbeatable.

 

I know that and it's clear by my original post (if you read it all) that i dont give any advantage in h2h terms via the greatness of a fighter. What i was thanking he grant for was the good H2H points that he made for Johnson here, he made a good case for the greater fighter, the man who i would like to think would come out on top here, and i thanked him duly, that's all.
