Not too bad, I didn't think. Certainly watchable unlike the Ibragimov fight. I don't think Klitschko deserves to take the brunt of the blame though. There was three people in the ring and Thompson had the least amount of fight in him. He was pathetically defensive. Klitschko bided his time and patiently took control until it was the right time to finish him off. What Klitschko needs is someone who isn't a class below him. Ibragimov and Thompson were. Chagaev would be a good fight. Possibly Arrerola too.
It was the epitome of a boring fight. Almost zero flash points and you could tell exactly what was going to happen after the first round. Although arguably it was obvious what would happen before the bell rang.
It gives me no pleasure at all, but yeah, it was a boring fight. I was truly thinking it would an entertaining fight. Thompson was disappointing, and Wlad showed very little drive at all.
For me, it's not a matter of who's to blame. It's about whether or not I was entertained. I found this fight to be boring. I was falling asleep and this fight came on at 5 pm here. I was glad to see Klit not being satisfied with a decision and going for the KO, but it was still a boring fight.
it was boring since it was announced-the fight lived up to be the most boring so far in 2008.....thank god it wasnt ppv
It wasn't great but not boring either. The first 4 rounds were competitive, even if Wlad won most of them. After that, Wlad got into a rhythm and/or Thompson became scared of the right hand, and Thompson went all defense... hard to look good against that, especially considering he's got a very strong chin.
Yeah, it was rather boring - because it was so utterly one-sided, mostly. The only thing that interjected a little tension into it was the slim possibility that Thompson could land a lucky punch and put Wlad on ***** street. And that got less and less likely as the rounds went along.
neither one impressed me. still, it was highly interesting to see klitschko's problems by trying to close the show. it wasn't like he didn't try like against ibragimov, but he just wasn't able to. the ibragimov performance was - even though the fight may have been more boring - way more impressing than what we got tonight. this made the fight interesting for me. it was the first time in years i saw klitschko showing weaknesses. i'm lazy right now and wanna go to bed, but either if you're a klit hater or you enjoy his performances, the fight had something to offer for you. if you couldn't see it, it's your own fault.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I've seen better and I've seen worse. First 4-5 rounds weren't great but atleast interesting. Then it got slow and repetitive from about 6 on. The ko helped and I was glad it finally came.
Considering this is heavyweight championship boxing circa 2008, this bout featured unparalleled excitement. I'd like to thank Wladimir Klitschko for making this happen and I'd also like to thank Tony Thompson for never actually attempting to throw a shot w/ any conviction. I'd like to thank HBO for broadcasting this delightful pugilistic affair, and above all I'd like to thank one Larry Merchant for his display of unbridled patriotism when he said (and i paraphrase), "if hoping even the saddest of American heavyweight boxing hopefuls dethrones one of these Eastern European drones is wrong, then I don't wanna be right."
It sure wasnt exciting, so I would lean more towards it being boring. It was at least better than the Iggy fight, which was possibly the worst title fight in the history of the Heavyweight division.
Amazing how Wlad gets criticized for a KO. People wanted that, they got it and still hate on the man. Unbelieveable!!!
For me, no. I have seen worse, and then much worse. It left you wondering about Klitschko's ability to keep it together late in the fight whilst providing a knock-out on top.
