I remember watching some of the recent heavyweight fights and seeing not sculpted fighters but lumbering giants occasionally once in a while throwing a punch, then clinching. Not exciting, especially when these "athletes" are fat and out of shape. This fight tonight, in my opinion was exciting! Both were in great shape, both didn't look tired or slow, and both provided a good fight, even as bad as Haye may have looked. The shadow boxing and all the feinting only made it more exciting because you didn't know when or if a punch will land. I thoroughly enjoyed the fight, and I don't get the gripe about the Klitchkos' "boring" style! So... what gives? Was this fight exciting and if not, why not?
The most exciting thing about the fight for me was to read all the dumb crap that would be posted on these boards after haye's pathetic display. I havent been disappointed.
It was exciting for the first 4 rounds then it turned into a snooze fest. Just like all other wlad fights. Wlad cures insomnia!
It wasn't bad in fairness, but its major disappointing for all the hype it received. That's the major problem. Haye did nothing he said he would, and Wlad did what he always does, but then again he never promised he would do anything different. It didn't even come close to living up to they pre-fight hype at all.
Personally, I thought it was better than the usual/average Wlad fight...I don't find Vitali boring at all...Wlad, on the other hand, was still a bit too gun shy in this fight...Haye had more movement than the average Wlad opponent, so it was a step up from the usual borefest..
I think it had good moments. Both guys ate big shots nicely enough to proof their beard. Few knockdowns would've made it very good.
I thought it was a good fight. It was free on HBO so no one can complain. There was always the possibility of a one punch KO. Both fighters looked like they were in trouble at one or two times. And Merchant was obviously playing a drinking game where he took a shot everytime someone said the word "flop". And they intros were rediculous. Why did they dress Lennox up, film the back of his head for 5 min, show his face, and never mention it again?
I 100% agree with this post. As a boxing fan its been a really longtime since I've seen two big men that talented and fast in the same ring together. Haye's defense and upper body movement was great. It really gave him a chance in this fight. Its too bad he couldn't get his offense going to match it.
alot of the exciting fights of recent past were like that too, with the clinching and hugging every 5 seconds between the action. excessive holding is what i hate the most about boxing as a spectacle. there was very little of it today, that's one good thing about it. this fight, despite not having much action, and for the most part being boring, seemed to go by in a flash for me watching it. i liked the cleanness of it, except for haye's faking
It was disappointing because Haye didn't bring the war he said he would bring. It was like Wlad vs Byrd 1. But it was supposed to be like Wlad vs Sanders. Still, I enjoyed it because of the build-up and because I knew there would be good threads here either way.
I don't think it was a great fight by any means, but I didn't think it was particularly bad either. :conf
