No doubt in my mind whatsoever that if Wlad crashes to another stoppage loss there will be the usual rush of horrified defenders, jubillant critics, big exaggerations and much rewriting of history. That's how it goes.

And why it's normally so much better to evaluate someone's place in history after they're retired. A win makes you a god, a loss makes you the worse bum ever to put on a pair of gloves in some eyes.

Wow! You should write on the front page!! You mean there's a boxer out there with talent that hasn't lost in a while but he can be knocked out?

Congratulations you just described every good boxer on earth.

Good Post. Thank you for a fair assessment, which is rare on this board.

You are right, he is very vulnerable and does seem to panic as soon as he gets hit big. I too, feel he will be beaten due to this fact. He is a case in which he has extreme strengths, but he also has an apparant weakness. Are his strengths becoming strong enough to protect his weakness? Maybe. we'll see.

I hope your not criticizing him for being "dominant" now. Whats next? :patsch

Dominant. :rofl Another word thrown around loosely by his supporters.

Austin was a neccessary evil. However it was in no way some career defining win. Infact what career defining win(s) does Waldo have?

Maybe Sam Peter if Sam turns out to be a superstar himself. Outside of that who? Chris Byrd? The same Byrd who struggled to beat McCline and Golota?

Byrd remains to be his biggest career win. A guy Lewis never took seriously, who we've witnessed barely scrape by in many of his title fights. An undersized, overachiever essentially.

Maybe Brock outside of that. However Barrett never amounted to much. Mercer was always right on the outside of winning a major title. Jefferson, Botha, who?

Lets see Klitschko get by these names, at least some of them:

    Peter (again)
    Povetkin
    Chagaev
    Ibragimov
    Solis

And if he does that? THEN you can call him dominant. Not until then sorry. And let's hope he doesn't have to jab and grab his way through them. We don't need anymore reminders of John Ruiz.

A disaster is defined as that which is unexpected. When I first started posting on this forum Klitschko was a glass chinned joke, now after doing no more than exploit this immense talent and beat the crap out of a few opponent that lack his talent and physical assets he is apparently unbeatable. Back two years after the Brewster fight any future defeat was not a disaster waiting to happen but just confirmation of the accepted wisdom. Now it is a "disaster" because he is expected to win. Granted some say he is chinny, susceptable. My commentary had two key points.

    1. Conventional wisdom is very dangerous and often wrong
    2. Of all the boxers I can think of, everytime a punch sails near Klitschko I hold my breath as one never knows what might happen - If Samuel Peter can catch him just about anyone can

Klitschko is an enigma - immensely gifted but always vulnerable, much more vulnerable than a boxer of half his talent - you just never know with the guy. Since he has started taking a leaf out of John Ruiz's book the risk of calamity has dropped markedly but it still remains

Of the name out there I think stylistically Chagaev is the biggest risk to Klitschko. He has beaten skilled fighters like Savon, a tall fighter like Valuev, hits hard, can move to create angles, can fight well on the inside and has beaten a hugger like Ruiz (even though Ruiz hel much less in that fight)

Klitschko vs Chagaev is a must fight. My money is on Chagaev

    I'd make Chagaev-Waldo even money

Povetkin I'd personally favor to beat Waldo. He has the pressure style and the skillset to make it happen. Only question mark being his chin but I believe he'd get it done.

Waldo should beat Ibragimov. But again, defining a dominant champion is one who controls the majority of belts at least, and has beaten or turned back the majority of the top 10. Waldo hasn't done that imo.

Yet, somehow Austin proved to be almost too much for heavyweight champ Ibragimov who barely scratched a draw with him having to climb up from the canvas in the process
