Teke, considering how flat the H/W scene has become in the last 8 years, do you think the two Chernobyl Bros have injected any excitement into the sport?? Unless you work in a potato field, live with Uncle Joseph, queue up for 6 weeks to purchase a Mc Potato Burger and ride the community tractor to school in the Siberian Mountains, it's more than likely you won't have any real wraps for these two products of a nuclear meltdown. Joe Loius gave the crowds excitment between 1935 and 1950 (37- 49 champ years).. Dempsey gave the crowds excitement between 1919 and 1926.. Marciano between 1950 and 1955.. Ali between 1960- 1980.. Other than those figures keeping the game well and truly alive during their respective eras, others have done their best to put you to sleep, destroy the game or never recieved any legitimate following due to following the shadow of a previous Champ.. I.E, Tunney, Walcott, Charles, Patterson. So, what have the Klits done?? They have the ability to smother any of the listed champs. That being said, they'd bore the game to death.. as proof, can you name 10 things associated with the brothers that will still be considered a worthwhile talking point in 10 years??
Yeah their size is one massive advantage. They do have some skill and seem to be quite cunning in the ring. Vitali has size, chin, power, skill, ring smarts...for his size he goes alright. There needs to be a separate Super Heavy weight class. It would make sure some fat arses actually train to fight.
I think Vitali's power is overrated to be honest. They do cut off the ring pretty well. Neither would make my list for top 20 Heavyweight champs. I really disagree about the Super Heavy division. I think there's too many divisions as it is.
I only asked what you meant by your statement - Yes would have been suffice Yes they are boring but i like them and they have a big following on this board (which is a representation of the world) Blaming the state of the division on them is strange :huh As it stands we all know who the best HW fighter is. Up and Comers know what direction they need to head in ---> Vitali
There may be too many divisions but there is a pretty big gap in size and strength of fighters over 200 pounds wouldnt you agree?
They are both as boring as bat-**** to watch - hard to question that. Not that they'd need to give a ****. As they go along on their merry way cleaning out the division together. Highly efficient and effective, but not ever likely to create excitement or headlines.
end of the day, the event was pretty good, SOme good fights on the undercard and in the Main event Shannon didnt Quit and showed heart. Was good for Free TV Boxing. Anyone else notice that in the main event there were ads between each round until round 7? it was like no one bought ad time slots after that round lol, Anyway, i woke up to watch the whole card and i did not walk away feeling like i wasted my time.
also, you spastic, there are more millionaires in indonesia than the total population of australia. the other 200 million live below the poverty line. mundine pocketed a cool $6 million from his green bout, here in oz, a world boxing backwater with a tiny following. that john isnt a multi millionaire by now, in boxing mad indonesia, is due to promotional skill......or lack ****en of it.
Thoughts on the main event regarding stopping it early? IMO midway through round 9 or 10. Reports Briggs is in hospital Briggs rushed to hospital Heavyweight title challenger Shannon Briggs is in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs suffered fractures below both eyes as well as a concussion and broken nose, after taking dozens of hard shots from WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on Saturday night, but is responsive according to RTL. He also suffered a pulled tendon and torn muscle in his right arm. Briggs was rushed to the hospital after the fight as doctors feared a possible cerebral hemorrhage after observing symptoms associated with neurological disturbances and drowsiness. Happily an MRI showed that there was no brain bleeding. Referee Ian John-Lewis, who has received criticism for not stopping the fight, said he was within one or two shots of stopping it. It was a heavyweight world championship, he said. These are tough guys and as long as a man fights back, you have to give him a chance.
Hardly surprising Briggs is all messed up. He was saved by the bell in so many rounds, ensuring he copped the maximum amount of punishment, but continued to be somehow kept alive. These are the sorts of bouts where the accumulated damage really takes it's toll. Thankful it wasn't a 15 rounder, because the 'championship rounds', as they used to be known, would not have done Briggs' future any favours.
I felt the ref had a few chances to stop it. Briggs was definitely saved by the bell a few times too. He showed alot of heart in the fight though, he took some big shots and never gave up. I think his corner had a responsibilty to stop the fight more than the ref though.
