Lewis had a very badly broken nose. Lewis retired rather than rematch Vitali for huge money. Mac Kellerman was sitting right behind Lewis' corner and said that he had never seen Lewis flop down on his stool like that. Lewis was finished and was saved by doctor stopping fight after Lewis' promoter signaled him. Angelo Dundee said that Vitali was cheated out of the WBC title that night. Dundee was a great cut man and Ali's trainer.

What you forget to talk about is that the momentum of the fight had changed. Vitaly was winning the first 3 rounds, but Lewis got better into the fight in the 4th and he was clearly landing the more telling blows and not only Lennox was looking tired, Vitaly too. Also Vitaly´s jab was missing more and more. So don´t tell us that Vitaly was cheated and he would´ve won the fight. Nobody can know this. As i said, the momentum of the fight had changed to Lewis and the cut rreally looked terrible, so the stoppage was right and therefor a legit win for Lewis.
