Good post. Vitali missing his prime due to poor medical advice and political aspirations hurt his CV but H2H, objectively, he's a little better than Wlad imo. One correction though... rewatch the Sanders fight. He WAS KDd
Agreed TBH. That was always exciting about Wlad tho. He could be stopped, so you always had that 'what if' to him. But honestly, as we saw in the AJ fight, the man is legitimately an extremely skilled boxer. Great timing and amazing power. His longevity and resurgence was amazing.
If thats true about Wlad then was does it say about a green inexperienced Joshua who outboxed him thru 5 and then knocked him out in the 11th? When Joshua got dropped in the 6th and was recovering for the remainder of the round - Wlad pawed and threw the same telegraphed left hook over and over again from the exact same position. He didn't have the boxing brain or skill to throw some feints , come in from different angles , throw a right hook , or even throw body shots. Wlad knew going in that Joshua had stamina issues yet never targeted the body once. Joshua beat Wlads body early and it paid off for him late on. I saw a 19 fight novice throw a better array of punches than Wlad ever did in over a 60+ fight career. Wlad fights to a script and if the fight takes a different direction he doesn't have a clue whats going on.
They're considered 'boring' in the same way in which Mayweather is/was considered the same. They fought the best they could, and beat the best. Wilder knocking out bums is more 'boring' to me.
Fighters like Wlad are 'robotic'. That term is often used in a negative way, but when you have a guy like Emanuel Steward in your corner, a robot is the perfect tool for him to work with. Sadly, Banks is a useless trainer.....and Wlad suffered immensely.

I think the Heavyweight division has been owned by Americans for that long that pretty much everyone(British included)are wary, like they have to go that little bit further to prove themselves, and with Wlad it took time to adjust to his safety first approach. I think its definately where they are from like you say. Lennox lewis never truly got appreciated because he was like a hobo. Born in London, raised in Canada fought for Canada as an Olympian, spends most his life in Miami, actually he had zero personality too
Vitali's more underrated than Wlad. Beating the guys who provided Wlad the most problems, coming back without a tune-up to beat one of the best non K's of the K era and grab a belt, and probably the best rounds won percentage in the history of any division. Many fewer, and less embarrassing, losses than Wlad. His legacy is equal to Wlad's, just in different ways, but fairly few give him credit for it.
“That was part of their problem, Vitali's had no defining wins, Wlad had no defining wins either nobody will be talking about Wlad/Haye or Wlad/Povetkin in flattering terms despite his dominance. Historic fights tend to be competitive ones and neither of them had opposition that could begin to compete with them” I thought the povetkin and chagaev were defining fights for Vlad Both were undefeated and Vlad steamrolled both of them But as you said historic, career defining fights are competitive first and foremost, if Huey are to be memorable and exciting to the public But that is not really fair to the champion to minimize his wins for the simple fact that he is dominating his opponent; which is a commendable quality, not something to diminish the champion for It’s not his fault that he is that much better than the next best challengers Vlad steamrolled so many good unbeaten opponents, some were unifying fights He also never got credit for the way he rose above his losses, overcame his shortcomings and went on to dominate both Brewster and Peter A Heavyweight controlling the division with such a tight grip as Vlad did for so long, that has to be a history making reign
