both could compete in any era and give any HW in history problems.

Indeed. The brothers' have proved that they are legit, and would be so in ANY era. In some eras, they'd be more than merely legit, they'd be champions.

I agree, size, ALONE means nothing, as has been said, Tye Fields and Julius Long prove.

But when you have overwhelming size, AND you are a very skilled, fast, disciplined, athletic, powerful puncher........that COMBINATION...............that means everything.

Try to tell any one of Wlad's recent opponents that they lost to him merely cause he's *big*, but is not on par with the greats, as a skilled fighter. They'd laugh you outta town.

which is why the question is being raised if the brothers would fare well in a stronger era....
it doesnt really matter what their opponents say now since their opponents wont be remembered.

You have a good point. There seems to be a lot of snobbery about boxing. Especially in the USA. If you aren't an American champ, you aren't legit. Lennox Lewis had that for his whole career. Despite beating EVERYONE. He KOd Bowe at amateur level and every other opponent at pro. He wanted to fight TYson years before they got in the ring only for Don King to pay him several million dollars not to do so. Corruption is what made majority of American champions remain champions. Especially if they were part of the WBA.

A lot of boxers can be so very easily overhyped. I've never bought into the Mike Tyson hype machine. His "true" fans say he was past his peak at 23 years of age. NO. He faught bums in his early career only to struggle against half decent opponents in a weak 80s era.

Wladimir Klitschko doesn't do himself any favors though.

    1.) He's a very boring robotic boxer
2.) He's not American. He'd be huge otherwise. Can you imagine it? A white American Heavyweight champion of the world? Only sh1t like that happens in movies.

Having said that I think the Klitschkos would only be champs in this era and the 80s. They'd be beaten by a prime Holyfield, they'd be beaten by Lewis. 50/50 about Tyson, they might pull a Buster Douglas on him or be destroyed in two rounds because of fear.

your phobia with the americans isnt justified.
if youre a world class basketballer, baseballer..whatever...you dont go and play in luxembourg because you can win their league every year for decent money, do you....

because boxing has this terrible illusion of all these belts and the cheapened tag of world champion it allows fighters to build up a reputation they havent earnt by avoiding the US but making money anyway..and then you hear their local fans get on boards like this and say they are the best...but the other great fighters wont come to them.

only in boxing do you have this veil which allows this crap to continue.

bottom line....boxing isnt mainstream, you come to the US if you want to prove yourself and make the big bucks, but many fighters get held up by promoters who dont want to sacrifice their nest egg..who is making good money fighting locally anyway...

you say there is a lot of snobbery about boxing, but i say there is a lot of miseducation instead.

how can you say..if youre not an american champ you arent legit...when the living proof is in guys who had the balls to test themselves against the best early and their ability or status was never questioned. guys like pacman and tszyu who never allowed themselves to be compared with guys like calzaghe because they ****ing went for it straight away.

people make their own luck in this world, and making excuses whether youre the fighter or the fan wont change this simple fact.

I laugh when I read that Holy beat Tyson, only cause Tyson's best days were behind him. :blood

I guess if you are an iconic fighter, as Tyson was, and you face a better, more skilled fighter, the quality of this new threat means nothing...... Its not that Holy was better, we can't accept that. That ruins the Tyson myth........ Its cause Tyson, even though he was fast, sharp, in shape, and still very young..............was suddenly past his best..........yeah, lets go with that.

I think had Wlad been in there with Tyson, instead of Holyfield, we'd have seen Tyson beaten in that scenario, as well. You can't tell me that a fighter with Wlad's size, and amazing power and world class left hand could not beat Tyson, and the average powered, (but hugely skilled), and averaged size Holyfield, could.

Wlad's size, combined with his power and left hand (which is on par with ANY heavyweight.....try to tell me its not) would, at the very least, hold his own, with the majority of those listed as untouchable.........period.

They would probably steam-roll through most other eras, based on a trememdous size, strength, and training advantage; although all of the old-farts on here are too ignorrant to see that.

I'm talking about boxing snobbery. Unfortunately for you. Boxing right now isn't all about the USA like it used to be. If you don't believe me. Take a look at the current WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF World Champions. You won't find any American champions above Middleweight. You'll find about five Americans in about four weight divisions. Just guessing.

The Americans seem to have forgotten about the Heavyweight division. Just because there isn't an American champion doesn't mean the division doesn't exist. Hell Americans didn't even know who David Haye was even WHEN he was WBA, WBO, WBC, Ring Magazine Undisputed World Cruiserweight champion of the world.

and i replied about the snobbery too.

i also explained why the title world champion and paper belts make it easy to sell an illusion to the boxing public which fringe promoters are more than happy to milk...and youve just tried to use belts to justify your reply...

go ready my entire post this time.

Well for sure it would have been great to see Wlad + Vitali battle it out with some ATGs. Prime Foreman, Bowe, Ali, Frazier, Lewis. Certainly would have made for many great fights. They would have lost some, and won some. All of these match ups would easily be candidates for FOTY.

Vitali - Foreman, boy that would have been a battle. They should have made this happen on the Red Square, right in Moscow with Leonid Brezhnev (Soviet prime minster in the 70s) at ringside with Don King.

The Klitschko brothers ARE from a different era.

    The future.

They are clearly Borg clones sent back through time to 'assimilate' the heavyweight division.

They've done a pretty good job and should be looking forward to promotion within the hive when the mothership comes back to pick them up.

God, I hope that mothership comes soon.
