This content is protected It's funny how so many people still complain about Holyfield being a cheater because of his obvious use of anabolic steroids, yet they say nothing about the Klitschko brothers, who are also obvious users of those substances. If the Klitschko brothers hadn't used steroids, they would have the physique and look as clumsy and explosive as Buddy Baer
I guess the difference is Holyfield was caught in one of the most hilariously obvious scandals going by "Evan Fields". Looking at photos from his amateur and cruiserweight days, the transformation is insane. Just eating your wheeties and working hard doesn't cause such a change. Had Wlad or Vits been caught up in such a flagrant scandal in their pro careers, I think there'd be a lot more negativity sent their way. Another difference is Holyfield was always preaching about his faith and being a hard worker/warrior of God, so it's a bit ironic he got caught cheating on both his wife and with roids.
Sure the Juice may have helped Holyfield but after he had that metal plate installed in his head he was basically impossible to knock out. Hahaha.
No offense, but what is the novelty here? From the 80s onwards literally everybody has been more on less juiced.
Yeah I doubt there have been too many guys who weren’t juiced over the past thirty years. Certainly none of the top raters
Right. That and the alphabet soup were the two main reasons why I gradually lost interest on modern boxing and moved to Classic. Regardless all their faults and limitations, there is very little or zero chance guys like Ali, Liston, Louis, Marciano, etc. ever fought juiced.
Which is also why, if you think about it, most of the "Heavyweight X from the 70s versus Modern Heavyweight" threads on this forum -- as fun as they are -- are probably a waste of time. Even people like 73 Foreman and 67 Ali would be entering the ring against elite guys who are also juiced, in addition to already being the best fighters of their eras. The modern guys are fueled differently, and the playing field isn't equal.
Prior to the 80's, the most competitive athletes / human beings on the planet weren't some pure aesthetic monks who eschewed PED's, they just didn't have access to steroids. They still very commonly used amphetamines and tried to look for advantages in other ways however, like Babe Ruth who injected himself with animal testosterone, or Ali who injested diuretics (both to their detriments).
