Confirmed by BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/7782894.stm What happens now to Gomez, will the winner be forced to fight him next, and will he be financially compensated.
Yeah why are the WBC pushing that mandatory so much. He should have until the fall to take that fight. Vitali better work on his speed, now he has 2 cruiserweights to fight next year!
Why would he have that long to fight him? Mandatories are due within 3 - 6 months (depending on the sanctioning body) of when they are named, unless the beltholder is a "super champion" (i.e. unified), which Vitali is not, or the challenger is an interim beltholder, which Gomez is not.
Wlad should give Gomez a fight because he doesnt have to defend against Povetkin until Sept, this way all parties are happy
I think the WBC will find ways to get around the Gomez dilemma with payoffs and guaranteed mandatories.
in an interview vitali even suggested that a fight with haye would be "bigger than the wbc". clearly a veiled threat to say he'll vacate if they inforce the mandatory ahead of the haye fight.
I do not see Suliaman and the WBC stripping Vitali who is a draw and a cash cow for them. Think about it, if they strip Vitali they will have Gomez fighting someone for the vacant belt. Nobody would care about that fight or the winner. I expect step aside money to be paid or Gomez given the "interim" WBC belt like Peter was before he got Maskaev in the ring. The winner of Vitali/Haye could then fight Gomez. There is just too much money involved for them to strip Vitali.
Good observation the other may be that Wlad will fight all the legends from 90thies ... after Rahman there is Holly and Golota will heal the arm very soon.
Oh no not Holyfield, he's already having trouble talking, imagine what he'll be like after eating Wlad's jab for 12 round's.
