To respect the old timers is one thing, but many of the old time nuthuggers as we can call them in this forum thinks that the old timers are much much much better than the guys fighting now.

Evey sport has evolved, also boxing. The fight maybe was more spectacular back then, but the overall skill level is much higher today.

just look at the divisions, look at the p4p lists, we have the top 2 guys not even fighting eachother regularly in most of the divisions.

the P4P list is full of past prime fighters

    too many belts

Tell me what you've seen that's made this era good?!

This is the farthest thing from the truth. Boxing skills peaked in the 80s and it has been declining ever since. Some fans argue that since athletes are getting bigger and have better nutrition and modern training methods that they are superior. However, history has proven this wrong. point to a hockey player better than Greztky, Orr or Lemeux; point to a basketball player better than Bird, Jordan and Magic; Hell look at Babe Ruth. these same fans point to Bolt as the fastest man in human history. Usain is like a top end sports car, if the conditions are perfect it can blow any competition away, but if you take it of road its almost useless. Nobody knows how fast Bolt would run if he had to run on the tracks of yesteryear wearing primitive running cleats. point is that better athlete does not translate into better boxer:bart

You can blame the promoters that never the top 2 guys face each other. GBP and TR does not like to du business. And that is a pretty good argument.

An if we use BoxREc's p4p list, http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?country=&sex=m&division=P4P&status=A&SUBMIT=Go , i would not say that many of the people is past their prime, but i still mean you can be past your prime, an still be a top p4p contender, it is not how good you have been, its about how good you are right now. Tak B-Hop, i deserves his place on that list, and he are 48! But he still can beat guys, but he definetly not in his prime.

The reason why i think this era is good is because the overall skills the boxers in the top level got, is better than in the previous eras. As i say, sports evolve and gets better on a technical level. It may not be as spectacular as the earlier years, but when both guys are better, they are more difficult to hit, and some boxers actually don't want to get punch drunk, so they box, not make a war in the ring.

You may think so, but where are your arguments? A discussion needs arguments.
