Yeah, that´s probably right. Not because he was afraid of him though. I remember Steward saying Lewis won´t fight Byrd and Ruiz because you can´t look good against them.

Exactly. Lefthook is a moron. Seemed to completely miss the point. Nobody would cherrypick Chris Byrd or defensive minded Southpaws to look good against. You can take anything out of context to make someone look bad...I'm not even a Wlad fan. But stating he cherry picked fighters to look good against is just plain incorrect. Byrd/Lewis would have been interesting as he would have been one of the more elusive and slicker fighters he faced, but it didn't happen. Lewis certianly ducked Byrd, and there was speculation that it was because he wouldn't match up well against him, be it just look bad or lose:

    From this very site:

again, boxing is preparing itself for another title fight, featuring Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield and Chris Byrd, with a little help from Lennox Lewis; boxing fans have an opportunity to see whether or not Chris Byrd can truly make an impact in the heavyweight division. Byrd, who's most notable wins are against David Tua and Vitali Klitschko, was to face Lennox Lewis for the IBF World Heavyweight Championship title, until Lennox Lewis made an announcement claiming that the fight would not sell to the public, and that he was relinquishing the title, leaving it for number one contender, Chris Byrd, and number two contender, Evander Holyfield, to battle for it on December 14th.

As of today, we recognize Lennox Lewis as the true Heavyweight Champion of the World, but when you relinquish titles instead of fighting to keep them, people tend to believe that you don't want to fight. In the 90's, Lennox Lewis was crying because Riddick Bowe dumped the WBC title in the garbage instead of defending it against Lewis. Lewis fans went on a frenzy claiming that Bowe was a chicken and did not want to fight Lewis because of their amateur bout in '88 where Lewis knocked out Bowe to win gold. However, since Lennox unified all three major titles in the ring, he has been stripped of both the WBA and the IBF world titles because he picks and chooses his opponents. The WBA mandatory challenger was John Ruiz, and even though Ruiz has a very displeasing style in the ring, he gave Holyfield three tough fights. In the second of their three bouts, he knocked Evander down with a sneaky right hand, leaving Holyfield badly hurt and holding on for the remainder of the round. Could this be the reason why Lennox decided not to fight Jon Ruiz? And as Lennox continues to play "Duck, Duck, Goose," Evander seems to be getting the tap on the head, "Goose!" by those fighters that Lennox does not pick to fight.

Chris Byrd has been hard at work since turning pro, and today has faced both Klitschko brothers, beating Vitali; after a shoulder injury had occurred during their bout, Vitali elected to throw in the towel, even though he was ahead on all three cards. But most people felt that it was Byrd's craft rather than the shoulder injury that ended the fight-just before the fight was stopped, Byrd had started to catch Vitali with good shots and all of a sudden the Ukrainian fighter seemed to have become a big strike zone for the smaller man in the ring.

The Klitschko's, like David Tua, are big named fighters who have power and skill, but none of the three fighters were able to knock Byrd out. Could this be why Lennox Lewis elected to let Holyfield take the fight against Byrd instead?

Yeah I remember that at the time , Lewis more or less openly said he wanted no part of Byrd. I doubt he thought he stood a chance of losing more that is would be a horrible pain in the arse fight , but no question Lewis chose to walk away from him.

    Undoubtedly.

As for a Lewis/Byrd fight, Lennox would have walked straight through Byrd and knocked him the f**k out. No one wanted to see that fight at the time. At his best, Byrd's skills made up for his diminutive size and he was certainly capable of troubling the clumsy slow pedestrian heavyweight athletes such as the Klitschkos or Tua ... but not a Lennox Lewis or an Ibeabuchi or a guy like Tyson, Holyfield, or Bowe in their prime - the few big men that combined size/power with real undeniable talent. They would just walk him down and knock him the **** out. Lennox made the right decision. Watching Chris get Ike'd wouldn't have been entertainment.

You do realize that I said "trouble" and if you watched that fight Vitali wasn't dominating him .. it was competitive .. and Byrd was a midget fighting a giant.

Byrd in his prime demonstrated he could repeatedly make up for his size disadvantage and lack of power against the less talented - he can't get away with the application of skill only against great big men - but he can steal some moments and some rounds against merely decent ponderous giants.

I've seen the fights several times. It was competitive?? You call Byrd losing every round and getting bloodied and KD 4 times competitive? I call it damn near target practice.

You keep using words like ponderous/lumbering/clumsy to describe the Klitschko's and I just can't agree with that at all. I mean, did you even see Vitali's last fight in against Arreola? He looked as slick as hell... :huh

All the more reason no one wanted to see a great heavyweight fight him. Byrd could slip and land punches on Vitali and Wlad and still couldn't overcome Wlad's size advantage even being more skilled - and lost a 12 round decision. Against a real great talent he was demolished in 5 rounds - that happened a year and a half before he lost to Wlad and year before he got a 9 round victory over Vitali . No one wanted to see how easily Lennox would have knocked Chris out - probably in 4 rounds.

If you look at his postings closely Brit Sillynanny is nothing more than a borig Klitschko hater. So why bother with stupid postings that have no other use than trolling. ;)
