Your the biggest Vitali fanbody here. Perhaps because his crippled nature reminds you of King Tut, the imbred gimp.

Pulev And Povetkin Were Both After Vitali Retired? And when vital retired the first time for a few years there definitely were different number 2's in the division.

On average, how many years and fights does it take to unify a title these days? Exactly how many times has it been done over seventeen divisions in the last twenty-five years?

Bernard Hopkins captures the IBF middleweight belt in April 1995. He wins the last of the four major belts in August 2004. If we start his reign then he has one defense of the unified title, not twenty-one.

That's a fair point. A case could probably be made for Wlad being the lineal champ after he defeated Chris Byrd too - who was no 1 at the time. But it's not of much consequence anyway.

Only an idiot would be so pedantic as to ignore the fact the second best in the division was also his brother. He fought the best of the rest more often than most fighters do.

Also, when Vitali himself also admitted to being the inferior Klit - doesn't that count for something too? In the sense that there was nothing to settle between them, because the number 2 readily admitted he was number 2, how does that work in the lineal sense?

If Adonis came out and said "I don't want to fight Kovalev, he's the better fighter" - could he possibly be deemed lineal champ? I can't see it.

While thread starter could be a hater and may sound bitter here, his point is correct.

I recognize the Chagaev fight as starting lineage but I more than acknowledge the highly legit claim that the lineage didn't begin until he fought Povetkin as Vitali was always rated in the top 2 at the weight until that fight.

Lineal titles are up to the opinions of the beholder in many cases.

i think when Vitali retired 2005 to 10-11-2008.. Wlad destroying the number 1 Bird solidified his place. especially when he had already beat the no 2 ranked Samuel Peter.

Wlad hadn't avenged the Brewster loss when he beat Byrd the second time - so no, the Byrd win did NOT make Wlad Lineal. Not even close.

    LOL.

Ali had retired as the LINEAL HW champion and that retirement lasted all of ONE MONTH. Anyway you look at it, Ali was the legitimate #1 HW in the world, Einstein. Everyone with 1/2 of a working brain cell recognized Ali Holmes as a LEGITIMATE HW World Title Fight.

    Try getting a CLUE...

The top active contender in the sport was Sam Peter (if I remember correctly he was favored over Wlad by the sports bookies) Wlad defeated him and then defeated the number one champion in Chris Byrd. It doesn't matter if he had not yet avenged his loss to Brewster. Brewster had already lost to Sergei Liakovich (9 years ago today if I'm right) earlier in the month. With Vitali retired those two wins made Wlad Lineal to most everyone. Not to the Ring magazine who only awarded him the title after he defeated Chagaev. Either way it's more than 2 Lineal defenses.

Well, the ring magazin let fight two guys for a vacant ring title, when #1 fights against #2 or #3 in thei ratings ... and sometimes if #2 fights #3.

If i remember correctly, Klitschko won the ring magazin title when he beat #3 Chagaev (#2 was Vitali).

And he beat another #3 with David Haye some years later (Vitali was still #2)

somehow confusing that some peps demand Wladimir to whait for Vitali to make it possible to become a new lineal champion as everybody knows they two would never fight each other...

Peter WASN'T rated #2 at the time Wlad beat him. Sorry, but you citizens of Planet Klitschko need to learn how to pay attention to DETAIL.

    Actually, yeah it does.

...and an argument can be made that Liakovich had a better resume than Wlad at that time.

..most everyone who doesn't have a working brain cell

Sorry but NO. Two lineal defenses and that's ALL...
