Both very forgettable matches, where there could be an argument either way. But in general Haye does do alot more, just not that fight though
His mistake was in running his mouth, absolutely. And I agree he should back up what he says, he said he was going to knock Valuev out but never pushed for it until mid-way through round 12. But he was trying to create media interest, after all. Rounds 1-11 even? I'm sorry, but do you even understand the concept of how a fight is scored? You do know that while other factors are indeed important - the principality of boxing is to land punches. Haye landed at a high rate, Valuev barely landed at all. Haye out landed Valuev in the majority of rounds 1-11 + obviously round 12. It's got nothing to do with him being British. For example, I'm a Froch fan aswell, but I felt Dirrell beat him and did it by boxing smartly. I may have reached in the aftermath because I wasn't happy with some of Dirrell's antics - i.e. his constant complaining, falling to the canvas constantly, his consistent holding on and leaning - he boxed smartly with lateral-movement. It's well within the rules and he and Haye were well within there rights. The only things I will say is that Haye shouldn't of talked so much about knocking out Valuev beforehand, despite it indeed made him look stupid when he never even pressed for it bar when he had Valuev hurt in round 12. And he was fortune to get the belt - not because he didn't win - but because sometimes you have to do more - rightly or wrongly - to beat a champion, especially in his own backyard.
Haye landed at a high rate???? For ****s sake Tommy he threw about 12 punches a round! Rounds one through eleven were basically even to me, not enough happened to give either man the round. Haye threw one punch every 15.4 seconds atsch
I would agree with this comment although Haye should have done more and the first eleven rounds could have went either way. I personally had it even and thought Haye didnt do enough to win. I was surprised at the judges cards at the end of the fight. :thumbsup
He may of been fortunate to get the belt in the end and given the verdict, but he won. It's that simple, he outlanded Valuev. Why should you have to press the action and dominate a champion just to get the decision. I don't care if Valuev is a belt-holder or not, if you win a fight you win the fight, even if it's close. You shouldn't give the title-holder an immediate advantage by favouring him in close rounds just because he's the belt holder. If Valuev was too slow to close the distance, that's his problem, not Haye's. You expose your opponent's weaknesses, Haye did just that.
Yes, but, Valuev was chasing and Haye was running, its true Valuev was to slow to catch Haye, but, he was trying and coming forward during the fight:deal
The reason Haye ran as much as he did was not exposing Valuev's weakness, but hiding his own instead. If his chin was better he could have thrown 3 or 4 times as many punches, while still avoiding Valuev.
before i start... im not a hater but... he looked slow footed (not a big deal, he can still cut the ring off well) had slow handspeed next to no snap in his puches no punch variety (no sign of the uppercut) no head movement (could be suicidal against Haye) cut really easily (again suicidal for the Haye match) all said and done haye has a few flaws himself so its still a match whitch Vitali must be considered the favourate... but only just:good
Klitchkos thought Valuev did they? Klitchsko fight each other will they? We all know he has to fight Ruiz, but after that its the Klitchskos then good night.
He still outlanded Valuev, what's your point? I didn't realise rounds were scored merely on the number of punches thrown. I guess we should give Valuev rounds 1-11 then on the basis he threw more, let's turn a blind-eye to the fact he was hitting then are the majority of the time. You were really that surprised to see that Haye won 8 rounds to 4? Why? He outlanded Valuev, that's all there is to it. Would you have been more or less surprised if Valuev had won 116-112 x2 instead? So? One guy has to be the aggressor. Just because Valuev took up that post because of his size and presence and strength, it doesn't automatically put him at an advantage. If you pressure, it has to be effective, i.e. you have to be outlanding your opponent. Valuev wasn't. Probably. His chin certainly isn't his greatest asset. That's why he didn't trade with Valuev, because Valuev could probably take his best punches better than Haye could take Valuev's, even though he's not a particularly big puncher although there's evidently a fair bit of weight behind those punches. Like I said, he did what he had to do to win. He wouldn't of been able to stand toe-to-toe and brawl with Valuev because he would of been knocked out, even I can admit that, so he boxed. It would of been nice to see him a bit more active, but he minimilised the risk of losing by staying disciplined and defensive-minded.
you are somewhat right, but his other fights weren't hw fights....now haye hw it is and has to be different how he was,i mean,he cant brawl with vitali or wladimir, let alone adameck, can you imagine what someone like lenox or tyson would of done to a fighter like haye?..to be honest i cant understand how can people see him as a hw savior,i really think that all the hw greats are probably scratching their hair in boxing heaven!...when he beats either one of the klitschko brothers( i say that because regardless of what people say they are the champions)then we can all embrace the all mighty haye(sory but that never is gonna happen).
I assume you meant "thin air". But no I don't think giving them to Valuev is the right thing to do. He did not do enough, just like Haye. I never said Valuev won them, he was ineffectively aggressive. That's what I said. And I never expected him to trade with Valuev, boxing is not black or white. It's not a toss up between Rocky IV and a marathon, there's a HUGE grey area in between. I expected Haye to put up a fight, but instead I got eleven rounds of absolute, inexcusable, boring, no good ***gotry. You keep saying I expected him to stand toe to toe and brawl, please read what I post. He didn't box, he ran. There's running, then boxing, and finally trading. See? I'm not a big fan of Gatti Ward type of trading, I prefer a skilled fight. I'm not a fan of marathon runners either. What I want is the thing in between that we call boxing. For the last time, I do not expect Haye to stand and trade because he does not have the chin for that sort of thing. Throwing a punch every 15 seconds while running around like a chicken is NOT boxing.
