Tony Thompson, the man who supposedly floored David Haye in sparring, has told Audley Harrison that he is 'leagues below' Haye going into the November 13 showdown.
Haye and Harrison are set for the biggest All-British heavyweight boxing encounter since Lennox Lewis met Frank Bruno, with the WBA heavyweight title the prize for the winner. And in a clash of two former training partners, the trash talk ahead of the bout - particularly from the Harrison camp - has been relentless.
On Monday the Olympic gold medallist mocked Haye by claiming that sparring partner Thompson had put him on his back. Harrison said: "I want Haye to tell me and the rest of the world what Tony Thompson did to him a couple of weeks ago, because I hear Tony Thompson knocked him down in training.
"Tony Thompson is not a puncher, David Haye - I am. If Tony Thompson's putting you down, what the hell am I going to do to you? It's so beautiful. He brought in this guy trying to get publicity for him, but he's knocked him down already."
Thompson did not comment on the alleged knockdown, but he did offer his opinion on the outcome of the November 13 fight, insisting Haye will win 'easily'. And in a taunt that could lead to a future fight between Thompson and Harrison, the 38-year-old claimed Harrison is not even on his level.
"I couldn't have been more impressed with David in sparring, and he was twice the fighter I first thought he was," said Thompson. "I just think this is going to be an easy win for him on November 13.
"I told David at the beginning that if he can hit me with right hands and beat the hell out of me in practice, he will destroy Audley Harrison. If David can do what he did to me, Audley's got no shot in this fight at all.
"Audley is nowhere near on this level. He's leagues below where I'm operating and that's just common boxing knowledge. Anybody that has ever watched a fight on television knows that. Audley might be an Olympic gold medallist, but he's nowhere near me as a pro. I've achieved, beaten good guys and mixed with the best, whereas Audley has achieved next to nothing so far."

Damn he has a weak chin. That is why he fights bums. I bet he will be trying to fight Dimitrenko next. I don't watch heavyweight boxing anymore thanks to klitschko.

Yes Chisora is better, he steps into the ring with The Champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Haye pulls out on short notice in 2009 and refuses the fight offer
    50:50 with no options.

Yes, but I think the difference is that Chisora is meant to be a "stay busy" opponent for Klitschko, whereas Harrison fits the profile of nearly every fighter that Haye has faced at heavy thus far.. Look at Wlad's last three fights.. He has beaten Peter, Chambers and Chagaev, plus has pushed for bouts with Povetkin and Haye.. What's Haye done?

Haye beat the **** outta Thompson in sparring. Sparring or not, Klitschko and Thompson basically fought to a standstill...

And who the **** is Tony Thompson?

Are you sure you ever want Haye to meet Wlad in the ring? Haye will destroy your hero in embarassing fashion.

Who has Peter, Chambers, and Chagaev beat?

Chambers beat a guy that is passing out to avoid fighting his opponents.

Chambers was a legit contender... 27 years old, 35-1 record, and had fresh wins over Peter, Dimetrenko and Brocke... Chagaev was undefeated, had handed Valuev his first loss and was seen by many as the TRUE WBA champ... Peter was a tough opponent who had troubled Wlad years earlier and was at least keeping busy....The men who Haye is fighting are 36-38 years old, and haven't done anything of note in years...For the record nobody in the division is doing what I would consider to be particularly stellar work right now, but I see no rational argument to harbor that Audley Harrison, Nikolay Valuev, John Ruiz or Monte Barret are better than anyone Wlad's beaten within the past 3 years.. Of course, Wlad's win over Rahman back in late 08', might be the one exception, but frankly I think Hasim fits right in their with the has beens who Haye has been feasting on..

No matter how one cuts it, Wlad has been taking on anyone who he can get a fight with, while Haye's people are selectively choosing hand picked opposition..

What? When did Chisora spar with Thompson?

And how is Wlad KO'ing Thompson a "standstill"?

Only in the mind of a hater....:-(

I meant HAYE battered him. And Wlad had one of his toughest fights against unskilled Thompson who was getting destroyed by Haye.

If Wlad had been talking smack like this a couple of years ago I bet HBO would not have dropped him.

Arreola, Chambers, Peter, and/or Briggs all beat the **** out of Harrison. To be honest I don't know if Haye would beat Peter, Chambers, or Arreola to be honest. I'm not saying he couldn't/wouldn't, I'm just saying I would want to see it done because I don't know that Peter/Arreola wouldn't spark him at some point, and I don't know that Chambers couldn't outbox him.

You know, no one except those two and their trainers know what really happened.

What is Thompson supposed to say? That he got the better of Haye? That he could KO Haye?

Whatever the case may be, sounds to me like Thompson is simply being polite by praising his sparring partner.
I would expect most fighters to do the same.
