I can't possibly see Ibragimov winning this one. I mean, he's a good fighter and all, but really, what has he done so far? He beat an over-the-hill Whitaker, drawed with Ray Austin. He fought safety first against a slow, tired Briggs that threw like 5 punches a round, and against a nearly 45 year old Holyfield that is still decent but nowhere near what he used to be. Yes, he won those fights, you can even say he fought smart, but he did not exactly do it in a very convincing way. That's really not that impressive. Compare that to what Wladimir has done the last couple of years and you'll see my point. I still think it's great if this fight happens, the Heavyweight division needs unification, and Ibragimov should get a lot of respect for taking such a dangerous fight instead of taking easy fights.
Punisher has a very strange outlook on this, especially since he says hes a boxing fan. Here is an excerp from this new article that Punisher won't acknowledge: Me, I think this is the greatest thing to happen in the heavyweight division in years. No question, this is what the division sorely needs, and has needed for years, now. The heavies are coming back! This won't magically fix everything, no, but is a start. A GOOD start to putting the heavyweight division back on its feet. And I gotta give credit to Ibrag for taking this fight. (assuming it does finally get signed) I was blaming him for not taking the fight, and claimed he was scared, but it looks like he is about to prove me wrong. Good for him. I will gladly eat crow, on the 23rd of Februrary. :good
I give all credit in the world to Iggy, but its dumb move on his part, thats all Im saying. I think its great Wlad is going to unify, I just wish it was against a better oppenent. Thats just hope this will help the heavyweight division and bring it back to mainstream again, I would love for the Heavyweight division to be popular like it was in the 90s.
Unification means getting around to ALL titleholders, not stopping after one. So it don't matter WHO is first, or in WHAT order they fight in, as long as the belts are brought together. That's all that matters. And yes, this will start to get the heavies back on their feet. Watch and see if, after this fight, that the heavyweight divsion don't sudden switch gears, and further unification will be everyone's next expctation, making it a must for Chag and or Peter/Oleg. The heavies are coming back!
I hope your right, but thats say Peter beats Oleg, King owns Peter and wouldnt let him fight Wlad probably. I see Wlad beating Sultan and not getting anymore titles after that, not because he cant win them, but becuase no one will want to fight him.
Yeah, I forgot that the Oleg Peter winner will have to face Vitali next. I also think Gomez is also probably in line after Vitali, seeing as how he beat Mccall, who was also a mandatory in waiting. So mark the WBC off, for now. But that still leaves Chagaev, and while Chagaev's promoter, Kohl, apparently had a big falling out with the K Bros, I think the demand for Chag vs. this new partially unified champion will be very strong. It'll be what everyone is expecting to see in the not so distant future. And I would bet the money in Europe would be huge for the fight, possibly enough to get Kohl and Klit to get over their spat. :good After you have one man with two titles, suddenly it takes the wind out of the sail of the two remaining titleholders who have only one title. Their one title suddenly dwarfed and overshadowed by a fighter with two titles.
Yeah I think Chagaev is the better avenue to go on this one, asuming that Wlad beats Iggy. I somehow see Don King getting the way somewhere down the line, the fact that Valuev is fighting Liakhovich early next year is probably a bad sign as well seeing that King owns him, say Valuev wins and then fights Chagaev and he ends up winning that as well, Valuev will be held on a short leash by King I think, especially if Peter loses somewhere down the line. I think theres a alot in the way of Wlad holding more than 2 belts, its going to be interesting to see how things play out. Thompson and the winner of Chambers/Povetkin will be pissed if this fight goes down, it will just delay there fights probably or even worse, cancel out there opertunity at a title shot.
Wlad by decapitation in round 5 Let's see here. Sultan is a small counter-puncher who likes to stay on the outside and lacks a big punch. If he fought timidly against evander, he will shitting in his pants against wlad. i expect klitschko to be really on his game for his most important fight of his career. I suspect Sultan wants to cash out since he hinted at retirement not long ago.
Yeah, if at all possible, King will weasel his way into this mix and prevents anything further from happening. Let's hope not. I am curious to see how long it takes before Wlad catches Sultan with one of these: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE_8IUTByLs[/yt]' ............but more importantly, he he'll react to it. I think Sultan will be very hesitant to get in range, and will move like he's never moved, before, in an attempt to survive, and try and move in and back out, as quickly as he can, hopefully landing a body shot or three while he's in there.
I think Wlad is going to end Sultans career, Sultan is too tentive anymore which is reciepe for disaster against Wlad. I think Wlad will pick his shots through 5 or 6, and start to open up an end it in the 7th or 8th round.
Major espect to Sultan if he signs. He has hinted at retirement recently so why not try for the big prize of 2 unified belts? He'll be paid well & have a chance at history. Seriously folks, any HW unification is good news regardless of what some of the admitted haters might say.
If Iggy fights Wlad, does very well but takes a loss. He made a lot of money and his reputation is fairly intact. If Iggy fights Thompson for a modest sum and happens to lose, he's well out of the picture with not much to show for it. Better for him to cash in his chips, then start again building up with lower level opponents - that pay ok. And still he has the *chance* of landing a shot on a less than perfect chin and taking two belts, or maybe even a close fight with a rematch at some stage. I think for Iggy a fight with Wlad is better for him then taking it for granted he will beat Thompson and playing that hand.
