Klitschko Peter, bring your knowledge of boxing history to bear on this one.

Damn man, don't be so arrogant. The people backing Peter as favourite here seem to have clearly spelled out their reasons why...

 

A sobering thought that.

 

if vitali beats up sam peter and shows a tremendous amount of courage, I will be the first on here to congratulate him and admit he proved me wrong, as peter would be the first young in shape contender he would have ever beaten. but if vitali loses badly or quits(which is very possible) my opinion on him will only go down. he has alot riding on this fight for me.

 

Vitali never was with Steward and isn´t in this fight. He´s with Sdunek like always.

 

I don't understand some of the points being made here. Jefferies swelled to over 300 pounds after being out 6 years and had to lose 100 pounds to get back into fighting shape and he was fighting Johnson a very good fighter.

Ali had to use thyroid drugs to get into shape for Holmes and it is said he already had the beginning stages of Parkinson's Disease.

Holmes had to lose a lot of weight in a very short amount of time for the Tyson fight.

Klitschko was not injured for the whole 4 years he was out that is another falsehood being posted here.


My point being Vitali never got fat, he is not fighting a Jack Johnson, Larry Holmes, or Mike Tyson. He is fighting Sam Peter who is 7 inches shorter, has a questionable Chin, and despite what others have said his stamina is not great either.

My opinion is that because of the height, reach, and skill difference Klitschko will win the fight. Peter is not a KO puncher when he fights upper tier fighters. Regardless of what happens I think it will be an exciting fight in a Division that has lacked excitement for a long time. :good

 

Which is why I think he may have some problems in this fight. Peter is extremely durable, and Vitali's power may very well have diminshed from what it was several years ago, especially if he's been nursing rotator cuff injuries of sorts. He is likely going to have to go many rounds to wear down Peter, and stamina over the long haul is not in his favor, given that he is a full decade older, and coming off the layoff.

Klitshko's best bet..........Knock out Sam early.....But......Not likely to happen......

 

I too go against the general public for this pick and side with much of the Classic section in choosing Peter to win. Most on his activity compared to the previously retired Vitali. Theres a chance the old Vitali resurfaces and stops Peter, but thats an unlikely scenario in my opinion and I am going with Peter's youth and recent activity to triumph over the much older, inactive, albeit stronger Vitali. Peter is a very live underdog here.
With these 2 though, anything can happen.

 

I think Vitlai's is in shape and likely has better stamina than Peter does at this point in time. Peter does not have any late round TKO's. In truth, Peter does not throw many punches late, and he his feet get a little heavy.


Watch. Vitlai will out work, and out manuever Peter if the fight goes into the mid to later rounds.

 

All of the above is true Mendoza, but regardless of Peter not scoring any late stoppages, he has at least proven often and recently that he CAN go 12 rounds. Klitschko has not gone to the scorecards in many years, and certainly not against an opponent who is competitive..

 

Again, as said here. Peter is not a prime Jack Johnson ... however, an inshape Peter should beat Klitschko ....

 

While Jack Johnson is a legend and Peter is not, remember the prime Jack Johnson had an even six rounder, or slightly the worse of a declining Jack O'Brien.

A prime Jack Johnson was knocked down and hurt by crude but hard punching a middle weight in Ketchel.

A prime Jack Johnson was nearly KO'd by a journeyman in Jim Battling Johnson, and was lucky to escape with a draw.

A prime Jack Johnson he won a DQ without hurting Fireman Flynn.

Maybe these were viewed as awe inspiring back in the day, but the news read I have read and the films I have seen tell a different story.

Honestly, I think Peter beats all of these guys faster and more descisely than Johnson did.

 

Here I have to agree. Johnson's record was riddled with losses, draws and No contests, and of course his advocates will say that they all came either before or after he reached his peak. While I believe some of it to be true, I also believe a lot of it to be crap. Johnson, even at his very best got his ass kicked by Marvin Hart, and struggled to beat a 35 year old Jeffries who hadn't fought in six years. He became champ by beating Burns who was 5'7", 160 Lbs. I mean what in the hell was this guy doing with the heavyweight title? Johnson was an icon in his community who breached never before broken boundaries, but placing him head to head against a lot of modern day fighters is a bad idea...

 

Peter's in shape?

That's quite the double standard.

 

How can you use this fights as examples when we all know what happned in them? Bad, bad examples, you can do better I think.

In his time perhaps, in theirs? No way.

 

I expect Peter to come in at a career high. Would love to go to the weigh in on friday but I can´t, have to work
