    Povetkin Injured

Alexander Povetkin has suffered a training injury, leaving him unable to challenge IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko as scheduled on December 13th. Povetkin is the IBFs #1 heavyweight contender. According to promoter, Sauerland Event, the Russian gold medalist was running in the woods in his hometown of Kursk when he tripped over a tree root and injured his left foot. Povetkin was examined by a local doctor and then immediately referred to Dr. Sergey Aschipov, Ph.D., a sports injury specialist in Moscow who frequently treats Russian Olympic team members. Although Dr. Aschipovs full diagnosis is not expected until Monday, an MRI was conducted revealing that Povetkin suffered a partially torn ligament in his left foot. The injury will leave him unable to train until the end of November. He is currently wearing a brace on his left foot and is awaiting the doctors final diagnosis and advice on the appropriate physical therapy. Because the undefeated Povetkin wants to win the heavyweight championship, and not merely just challenge for it, he withdrawn from the December 13th date against Klitschko, which was slated for Mannheim, Germany, rather than go through with the fight at less than one hundred percent. The bout against Klitschko was mandated by the IBF after Povetkin won a four-man tournament to become Klitschkos mandatory challenger. Alexander is extremely disappointed, as are myself and Kalle Sauerland, said Sauerland Event CEO Chris Meyer via telephone from Moscow on Friday. We will release additional information on Povetkins condition as soon as it becomes available but we expect Povetkin will be fully recovered and able to fight Klitschko in early 2009. Meyer and Sauerland had flown to Moscow to meet with Povetkin, only to learn the bad news shortly after their arrival in the Russian capital.

Good! I think this fight was too early for Povetkin anyway.

Povetkin is a coward!!! Nothing but talking.....

I hope Wlad will make a mandatory against a nother contender you is willing to fight. Povetkin only wants to fight in Moscow. Now he is crying like a baby because K2 had won the purse bid.

I hope it will be the mandatory for Wlad, next available contender, maybe Hasim Rahmn, Chris Arreola or Juan Carloz Gomez, the WBC manatory for Vitali Klitschko.

The best will be a fight against Valuev but Sauerland will not allow this fight.

    It is a shame.

The only real Champion is this man, making his mandatories and unify the titles:

This is a disappointing news for me.

Sure Wlad may very just easily beat Povetkin, but I would like all undefeated HWs out there to either prove themselves or get exposed.

    Povetkin
    Chagaev
    Dimitrenko
    Haye

What pisses me off is that after Wlad retires, they will dominate the HW scene and then there will be a lot of "what ifs" against Wlad.
