Klitschko, Pulev, Ortiz, Wilder - did Wlad ever go on an equally strong run of defences?

    Povetkin > Ortiz
    Wach = Wilder
    Pianeta > old Pulev

Stop cherry pick number of defenses. Put it this way instead: Can Joshua hold the belt for 10 years?

Actually a very interesting question. In terms of a direct run, I'd be tempted to say probably not. The mitigating factors being this includes a 41 year old Wlad off of his longest layoff, but still a VERY capable one that I had as number 1 in the division. I think Ortiz is the goods but aside from the Jennings/Thompson run (which feels an age ago) he hasn't really been on much of a platform. Wilder...eh, I'm just not remotely sold really but he's fun for sure. Pulev is decent, no more no less.

I would say, in terms of 4 in a row that's better than a 4 in a row Wlad had. That isn't to say AJ will or will not go on to have a career as successful as Wlad's, it's just a direct response to the OP.

I would be very surprised but pleasantly so if this run of fights came off and if AJ managed to win them all too (he has those kind of flaws that means he will be iced at some point, but it's hard to call by whom)

And yet, I agree with you on a lot of other fighters ;)

I'd love to see Wach v Wilder. Let's see if chickenlegs can deal with a guy he can't hurt.

    1. It's a big "If" that he would go through all 3 and win vs. all 3.
    2. If he were to do that, I'd still give Wlad the advantage. Right
after Byrd, Wlad went on a hell of run from Brock culminating with a shopworn Sam Peter (which we can discard).

    Brock
    Thompson
    Brewster
    Ibragimov
    Rahman
    Chambers.

That's a very good run by any stretch of the imagination and I'm
probably forgetting a couple of people. Even if Joshua pulled a hat trick
and beat those three, I'd say Wlad's run was still arguably as good or better.

This whole thread is based upon a hypothetical run that Hearn claimed he was looking to put together not sure why people are acting like I said that this run was a foregone conclusion - I just wanted to know how it would be ranked by the board against Wlad's various runs.

I think it would be fair to say it's right up there with the best win streaks.

I'm looking forward to seeing whether AJ becomes the monster he is threatening to become.
