What makes you think this though?

They have exactly the same style on film.

    They fight IDENTICAL.

And their physical dimensions were the same. It's not like Canera was a bad fighter.

It's just that Max Baer and Joe Louis happened to be occupying the era at the same time and knocked his ass out.

Wlad does have fast hands, but he still has the same weaknesses that every big guy has.

It takes a lot of oxygen to move those muscles, and if a guy makes him miss, he's gonna look worse and slower just like Carnera began to look against Louis who was makin him miss time and time again.

The fact is, guys in this era don't make mother ****ers miss.

So of course Wlad who is more cautious than Carnera is going to be faster because he won't be missing his opponents nearly as much.

But when he does get aggressive he appears clumsy, and it takes time for him to adjust.

It's not like he's a particularly agile fighter. I mean, how often does he bend at the waist to throw an uppercut?

it's not like he hasn't had the opportunity.

Chef, I ain't tryin to discredit your fighter. I AM tryin to discredit Chambers though.

And Povetkin. They both ain't ****.

    And you know it.

Klitschko beats Haye, then you can tell me he beat a REAL opponent. Until then, like I said Povetkin and Chambers ain't ****.

That's not a knock on KLitschko though nor a knock on Carnera.

Joe Louis was slow. Sorry. He got beat by Schmeling, for crap's sake... Louis was propped up during the war because he was very popular, he was very involved in US propaganda efforts, and thus he was an icon who we couldn't afford to lose.

    Overrated.

Yes, it is. ALL of Carnera's fights were fixed, boxing and Carnera were totally mob controlled. When Carnera's usefulness came to an end and he had to fight on his own, he took a savage beating from Max Baer, getting knocked down 11 ! times. Comparing either K brother to Carnera is just ridiculous.

Aren't you the same mother ****er that basically just reduced Joe Louis to garbage?

Even though most mother ****ers including Mike Tyson think he would made any mother ****er look like a damn bum of the month club.

    And Max Baer could fight.

I actually like Klitschko. I think he's a good fighter.

He's very smart and uses what he has extremelly effectively.

Facts is facts. There's a reason why Louis' opponents were termed the 'Bum of the Month' club. And Primo was garbage, I'd bet the house on Chambers against Carnera, it would look like a sparring session. In Carnera's defense, it seems most likely that he himself did not know his fights were fixed.

Don't waste your breath on someone who's boxing knowledge goes back to last week.
Is true that Mike Tyson himself knows how good Louis and Baer were.

Carnera was big, but far from as good as either Klitschko. His feet were way slower, he wasn't as athletic (though he was built well, no doubt), didn't really punch hard (padded KO record) and his timing wasn't very good.

I'd say he compares better to Dimitrenko, who is also very big and not too bad, but not too good either. Needless to say, Carnera is way more accomplished than Dimitrenko, but that is besides the point - Dimitrenko is not fighting 180lbs heavyweights like Carnera was in his time.

Yeah well, no one is saying that Chambers or Povetkin are the second coming of Joe Louis. :)

On a sidenote: i don't think he can, but Povetkin might have a decent chance of closing the gap. A guy like Haye maybe could too, and he can do a lot of damage with one punch. But then again, he can also take a lot of damage from one punch, while Povetkin seems to have the more sturdy chin.

Keep in mind the old films you watch are at a different speed, giving the impression that they are much slower than they were.

Wow, Carnera got knocked down 11 times and kept getting up? He obviously had an iron chin to go with his size then, just like WALDO :yep

Joe Louis has probably underrated speed. Everybody talks about his power, technique, skills, etc. But the guy is easily one of the fastest combination punchers at HW. Very deadly. I'd say Patterson, Ali, and Tyson were faster but the names get questionable after that.
