no thats wrong. thompson landed the most punches ever against wladimir klitschko, but wladimir outstriked him by much more punches. but thompson has average power and could not hurt wladimir, and thompson is way underrated, a very tall southpow with good speed and good talent
That was both my understanding and my feeling during the fight; that Thompson had out-landed Wlad. It's also exactly what I expected to see, I thought Tony had faster hands in terms of combination punching. It was generally accpeted at the time, from memory, that Wlad had been outlaneded. On the general forum, I mean.
Thompson landed a lot of punches to the body from what I remember but he was not very effective at all. He did put up a worthy fight for around 6 rounds, then Wladimir took over.
This fight is mostly memorable for Wladimir falling against the ropes catching his neck on the top rope and basically remaining rigid until he fell off the rope, and got up like a robot. Freaky stuff. Just another Wlad masterclass, Thompson started well but quickly went to the defensive and went backwards.
Wlad won the punch stat numbers by a wide margin. Thompson was credited for landing the most punches ever on Wlad. Wlad maybe lost one round. Thompson's style and durability made it competitive. He made Wlad fight and work hard.
