With rumours of Wlad's return sweeping the internet I wonder if the possibility of a massive Ukranian superfight with Usyk in Kiev is in the process of being negotiated. If so do you think an ageing Wlad has any chance against this current Usyk even at heavyweight?
first off, no way this fight gets made, zero chance. usyk has to prove himself up there first most likely, as hes not a huge name right now. klitschko name is legendary at this point, Only fights wlad would take would be against huge names.
Isn’t there this rumour that they sparred and Wlad had to call it off because Usyk was making him look silly? Might have imagined it, but I’m sure I’ve heard that before..
First of all i really don't believe they would fight each oter if Wlad returns because they ve been sparing partners for quute some time and you can always see Wlad in Usyk's lockerroom before and after the fights, so it looks to me like they are friends. But if that fight would ever happen, I would have Usyk beating him. Yes, Wlad has the size and power adventage over him and many would say that Fury won because he was slightly bigger than Wlad, but I disagree, it wouldn't matter. If the Fury fight showed me anything, it is that Usyk is a stylistic nightmare for him. He also has the better skills. And at this age, that fight is only going to be more difficult for Wlad than it would have been a couple of years ago, and he would be only even slower.
Wlad KO. Usyk isnt hard to find with a right hand and relies on the high guard too much, Wlad would punch straight through it. His style and attributes don’t translate well to HW in general imo.
You also have to keep in mind that Usyk would box differently in this fight, compared to the way he boxed against Bellew. When Usyk knows he's in with a big puncher who could hurt him and knock him out, he doesn't waste any time on the frontfoot, trying to atrack, nor he gives up the feel out rounds. From the first bell he immediately becomes light on his feet and keeps his defense tight. Just go look at his fights against Glowacki and Gassiev. In those type of fights he's also boxing off his backfoot 100% if the time, but is also more actuve while doing it. What I mean by that is that the defensive minded boxers, boxing off their backfoot, usually have a low output and are winning the rounds not by much, while Usyk is much more active than any other boxer fighting off his backfoot, throwing up to 100 punches a round and clearly winning and dominating those rounds whenever he's boxing off his backfoot, it's not even close, nor hard to score, compared to the other defensive minded boxers.
Prime Wlad kills him. Minimally, the fight looks like Wlad Byrd I. However, if this fight got made Wlad would be 43 or older, and at least 4 years since getting a win. That version would probably be made to look silly against Usyk.
Don't forget that Wlad won 8-4 or 9-3 against Jennings, who is as tall as Usyk, but slower and not nearly as skilled as Usyk, and that was 3.5 years ago. If the fight happens now, Usyk will win. But it won't happen so no worries about that Prime Wlad would've stopped Usyk though.
