Everyone has been busy talking about how HBO and Showtime are stepping up this year and airing great fights without all the ppv bull**** and thats all true and great for the sport. But what I think is equally important for the growth of the sport is What ESPN is doing not only have they decided to cut back on their programming and scrapped Wednesday night fights which I feel was the right thing to do cause all they were doing was putting on 2 lousy shows everyweek which I'm sure didn't help their T.V. ratings one bit. But they've also made a concerted effort to put much better fight cards on their air including next saturday's WBC Heavyweight Championship fight between Vitali Klitschko and Juan Carlos Gomez and then the very next week they're gonna be airing another very important Heavyweight fight between Former WBC Champ Sam Peters and Eddie chambers. I feel what ESPN is doing is every bit as important if not more so than HBO or Showtime in helping to promote the sport and to help build up fighters name recogniztion amongst the American public. Cause not everyone who has cable is able to afford HBO or Showtime and the only time they are able to watch a fight is on ESPN or maybe Versus , which by the way is starting to show some better fights to.
Thanks for the Correction...that's even better..I don't know the rating comparisons would be but I would Imagine that more people watch Regular ESPN than they do ESPN2.
I think it is a kick ass move by ESPN to step up and bring the some very good fights to the average cable viewer. This is what made the sport so prominent throughout the years.
Yes, this fight being on regular ESPN will allow many casual boxing fans to see what Vitali is all about, and hopefully, spark more interest in the heavyweight divsion.
I think its great as well, Byrd vs. Riemer will also be on the undercard. Byrd might be finished, but he still has a recognizble name, and it should be interesting to see what he does.
I'll be watching this fight if I'm not working, it's great ESPN is getting back in the fight game, if I am working I hope it's replayed later.
And let us not forget that ESPN is also airing Peter Chambers the following week on Friday Night Fights. Good going, ESPN.
Unfortunately they wont be showing any undercards on the live telecast.. **** this ****.Im havin a party and its always more fun with an undercard.
