Samuel Peter's mandatory heavyweight title defense against unretiring but oft-injured former belt holder Vitali Klitschko, which was agreed to in principle a couple of months ago, will take place Oct. 4 or Oct. 11, most likely in Europe with Showtime televising the bout in the United States, Peter promoter Dino Duva told ESPN.com.

Samuel Peter's next fight will come against the oft-injured Vitali Klitschko.

Peter (30-1, 23 KOs), who won the title in March by knocking out Oleg Maskaev in the sixth round of a long-overdue mandatory fight, was going to fight an optional defense this month but time ran short to put it together. All along, Duva has been working on the fight with Klitschko and found support from Showtime. "We're pretty much done with the deal with Showtime," Duva said. "[Showtime boxing chief] Ken Hershman has been great to work with throughout this process. We're committed to Showtime. It's 99 percent done." Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) hasn't fought since making his only title defense against Danny Williams in December 2004. Numerous injuries led to his retirement and various comebacks fell through because of more injuries. One of the remaining hurdles in finalizing the deal is contract language about what will happen if Klitschko is again unable to fight on the planned date.

Good to hear they've got a set date, a station, and the fight is on the way.

I predict a very dramatic fight that will impress and amaze.

    Thanks for the info.

    The fight will never happend...

Waist of time to make deal with showtime...

Vitali is done as a fighter.

I actually think it will go down, but I am curious as to see who is contracted as substitutes.

Vitali has been training for months and will beat the limited Peter to a pulp.

Vitali will never make it to the ring-

    Injuries, injuries, injuries...

His body is finished, he just hasnt accepted it yet....

Support his brother, Vitali is done for good...

Any bets on how many times Vitali pulls out? There should be a vBookie event on how many times Vitali pulls out with an over-under of 2 or 3.

If Vitali pulls out, you have the #1 contender ready to fight, simple as that.

Think that's...hmm, Gomez or Virchis, isn't it?

    Right.

Have the next highest contender, or whatever mandatory Suliaman has on deck, to fight on the same night......and if Vitali don't fight, put the contender/mandatory in there with Peter and keep the same date.........

Same thing they did with Vitlai when Kirk Johnson couldn't fight Lewis........they merely put Vitali in there and kept the same date..

    :good

But I venture do say that Vitali would not cancel this fight, no matter what. He'd probably keep any pulls or strains quiet and fight on, given how much netative attention he has gotten over his injuries and such.

If it's indeed in Europe then it's gonna be on October 11, RTL wouldn't want to compete with ARD and Abraham vs Marquez on October 4.
