If Vitali doesn´t make this date, he should not be champion emeritus anymore and should just retire or climb the rankings like anybody else. I hope they have a backup for Peter to fight if Vitali injures himself once more. Virchis and Gomez are already scheduled to fight each other actually for the mandatory position. I do not know who to pick if the fight does come of. I think a prime Vitali would have a big edge but I suspect Vitali will be too rusty and worn out this time and Peter would win. What I hope for is for Vitali to make the fight and KO Peter. On the other hand - Peter winning this fight would really create great potential for Wlad-Peter 2.
I think it's a 50/50 on wether Vitali will even make it to the ring, the fight dates 3 months away, and anything could happen to the very fragile Vitali inbetween that time period.
I can't honestly say I expect this fight to happen. But if it does, I think there is a good chance of Peter actually winning...these injuries HAVE to be catching up to Vitali...even though in his prime he would execute Peter easily.
I just do not understand how you think that even in his prime he would execute peter easily...... tell me the list of greats that vitali destroyed to make you say such remarks:huh
I base it off of a few things... 1) Vitali has a longer reach than Wlad. Peter could not for the life of him get past that last time out. 2) Vitali has as good of ring generalship as Wlad, adding to that same point. 3) Peter had a hard time getting out of the way of straight shots against Wlad, although he's shown to be getting better lately. Vitali does nothing but 1-2's and similar stuff. 4) Vitali has an iron chin even if he gets tagged. But, like I said, with the injuries it could get interesting. It will be a good fight but I really think that unless Vitali really looks the part, this fight won't be too telling about who would have won if it was a pre-injury Vitali. That's not an excuse, but just fact. The guy has had injuries in three places that typically never heal all the way...the shoulder, the knee, and the back! Realistically, he shouldn't even get in the ring again.
Well he was never knocked around the ring by a fighter as bad as Jameel McCline for one. Peter could not even beat Wlad. How is he going to beat Vitali who has never been out boxed before by anyone? Peter is too slow, plodding, and a stationary target he is going to get hammered by that jab. And don't forget Vitali has a slapping left hook that Peter could not take against McCline without getting wobbled or knocked down.
idk i hope this comes off as i really think vitali could have been really great if it werent for those pesky injuries... watch his style and combos for somebody that size u just dont see it often...
That's why you gotta admire Vitall's confidence in himself. :good He is either very confident in himself, or he is not very impressed by Peter.........or maybe its both.
I can't believe these people think Vitali would come back if he did not think he will win. Vitali is very smart and I have no doubt he will beat Peter down I do not see Peter having an answer for anything Vitali has in his arsenal.
Yes, he'll make sure he has tested himself in every way possibe in the gym. I disagree with those who think you can't prepare for a fight by mere training and sparring. Some say you have to have an actual tuneup fight to properly prepare for a big fight.......I don't necessarily agree with that. I think one can prepare himself in the gym, if he goes about it right.
Vitali claimed recently in an interview that he plans to come back, grab a belt and retire again. So if he wins his spot will be open for Wladimir to continue unifying. That's just the "Klitschko dream" he wants to accomplish with both brothers being champions in the division.
I thought I read where the plan was for Vitali to get both of the two remaining titles, so they'd have two each, then they'd see their goal as being done, once they had all four between them.
The one I read said Vitali wanted to get the WBC and WBA belt. I have a feeling he will stick around if he beats Peter to try and fight Valuev/Ruiz/Chagaev and then retire. He said he wanted all the Heavyweight belts in the Klitschko family.
You can prepare for a fight in camp, they do that all of the time. The intensity is hard to duplicate but everything else you can, if trained properly. The question is his body reflexes etc. Your reflexes are the first to go after 35, at least for me it was. then weight gain, then stamina. Stamina will not be an issue unless he undertrains because of injury. Other than that I see no way that Peter can beat Vitali. Unless divine intervention.
stop with the McCline fight Peter had a ruptured eardrum for christsakes,, add the fact that he had a bum hand also
