There was no reason to...he never fought a big puncher until then. But, you can also ask why he was trying to box more instead of fearlessly jumping into someone's chest like he used to. It was effective for him. Why would he change such an effective fight tactic? That's obviously his strongpoint as a fighter...hmmmm. Is it because he realized he was a flawed fighter after the Klitschko fight?

Toney proved in his last fight that he is still dangerous. Rahman was mostly hitting air for 3 rounds.Toney countered perfectly. The current version of Toney would beat McCline, hell he may even beat Thompson in December 2008.

The deterioation of his speech does not affect his abililty top compete in the ring.

So judging from the poll, Vitali is what, about a 3-1 almost 4-1 favourite at ESB?

More than a little revisionist. Scorecards were 29-28, 29-28 Toney and 29-28 Rahman. His 'air punching' was a little more on-target than you suggested.

That's interesting, you bring up Haye...How do you think he would fair against all of the titleholders?

...because he only had about 20 amateur fights and was learning on the job...

He has learned better boxing along the way, and consequently he uses it.

It's funny you think that there has to be a dubious reason behind him learning his craft.

Not too often you hear of a puncher becoming a boxer because he found out he had no chin...:rofl

    ...nice try though.

Just restating that the Wlad loss did affect him as a fighter, mentally and physically. The only one who can't see that is you, Suge.

I think peter is over rated by a lot of people on here, yes he may beat vitali as we don't know what he has left.

4 years ago vitali would of beat the **** out of him

    :yep

I'm a fan of Haye but can't really comment on that right now, I need to see more of him as a heavyweight to make a decision and the fight with Barrett should be a good enough test to keep the discussions rolling. I know for a fact that Peter fired back at Haye's comments about how he was talking down on all the heavyweights and called him out.

Peter is rated fine, if anything he's actually underrated after the knockdowns to McCline. The only reason he seems overrated now is because most people aren't giving Vitali a chance after 4 years off with serious injuries.

Don't fool yourself...I wish James were still the same fighter he once was. But, sadly, he's not. He can't compete with any of the top heavyweights. He had a draw against Danny Batchelder. That should be evidence enough.

When talking about Toney, you can not go with the normal standards.

I have been following Toney's career since the mid 90's and watched almost every fight and I assure you that even at 40 he has something left. Even if the scorecards did not reflect it, Toney was just warming up. He was at his lowest weight since Holyfield. He may not be able to beat Peter or Waldo but he is still a top 10 contender.

Toney's is often underestimated. I predicted his upsets over Holyfield and Jirov.

It's not that I can't see it...I just have no interest in using my imagination when providing analysis, like some here...

You go ahead and reconcile that BS you are tryin' to sell with the James Toney rematch then...makes 0 sense.

If WLAD caused such a destruction of Peter, we would have seen it before McCline...2 years is much too long for this kind of "reasoning."

When there is a elgit situation like the one you are trying to create...it is seen in the next match...that's is why they say..."(Name)" was NEVER the same after they he fought "(Name)"...

...it's not, "Sam Peter wasn't the same 5 fights removed from the KLITschko fight...but was still OK for 4 fights after."

    please.

What was your reaction to Haye's humble retort to 2 gunz comments? Furthermore, how do you see this fight playing out?

You don't know James Toney...when he fights a can he just does enough to get the job done...he is a natural counter puncher...and is not known for pressing the action.

Haye is being realistic when he's showing respect to his next opponent, he knows Barrett is dangerous and has a good chance here. A part of his trash talk was actually smart, look how much attraction he brought doing what he did, especially when he ran after Wladimir in that popular video of him calling him out face to face. He's just hyping up all of his fights, now it's a guarantee whoever he fights people will tune-in, the Hw division is that desperate and he's taking advantage of it.

About Haye vs Barrett, I'm really not sure how this might turn out. I really don't know how Haye's stamina, speed and ability to take a punch will be as a Heavyweight and knowing Barrett it's fair to say that we don't know what he's going to bring, sometimes he comes serious and sometimes he's out of it. I'll make a blind type of prediction and say Haye knocks him out within 5 rounds.
