These are frankly scandalous. How many promoters DON'T look after the opponent? Oh look, it's the Klits. What a surprise. I don't think they're as classy as everyone makes out.
How's that scandalous? **** me,they're saying they wont pay for a hotel...wow!!! How much was Povetkin going to make from the fight? Could he not afford food or insurance?
So, fining him for missing a press conference is ok? It's standard that fighters are protected by the promoter's insurance. And accommodation? Who doesn't provide that? That's a basic courtesy.
All this is moot and an excuse for people to bash the Klits. I'm not a fan of the brothers particularly, but it's clear Povetkin is a spoiled brat and a *****. I'm glad the IBF are looking at the situation now because he's been allowed to hold that position hostage for way too long.
Haha and this is what Sauerland calls a slave contract? Then why didn't they complain to the IBF the day they received it, instead of leaving it unsigned for 15 days and thus breaking the IBF's own rules? I find nothing spectacular in these rules. Povetkin should help promote the fight and he has to cover his own costs such as insurance, travel, medical (out of the 25% of the purse bid he receives) just like the Klitschko's cover all their own costs. This sounds like any other contract to me. Look at your typical free contractor agreement (if you e.g. contract for company, performing services to them) and it's not much different. You damage **** you pay for it. You don't do what's agreed upon you get fined. You pay your own costs like travel, insurance and heath care. Note how Atlas didn't mention the contract at all, he simply said the truth for once: they know Povetkin has little chance against Wlad and he'd risk ending his career prematurely. Sauerland is trying to save face but they're doing it in such a blatantly amateurish manner that its almost comical.
How is that shocking? Povetkin gets a guaranteed $2 million dollars out of the purse bid. The risk is upon K2 to make their money back, and they will only make it back by properly marketing and promoting the fight. If Povetkin goes into hiding, doesn't show up to press conferences and refuses all interviews then how does that help the promotion and enable K2 to make their purse bid money back? If there's no fine then Povetkin has ZERO incentive to attend any type of promotion activities and press conferences. He'd just stay at home or in his training came while it's up to Wlad alone to drum up interest for the fight. Seriously, it's not a rocket science. All of these rules make sense to me and if they didn't to Sauerland then they should have complained to the IBF on the same day they got the contract. But they didn't. Why? Because they were probably going back and forth looking for a way to get out of the fight. Remember the WADA doping demands Povetkin and Sauerland insisted upon for months? Then the purse bid where they claimed they will grossly outbid K2 with the help of rich Russian investors? Then their refusal of signing the contract, allowing the IBF deadline to expire? It looks like a cowardly duck, smells like a cowardly duck. It is a cowardly duck.
The sad thing for me is that post-Lewis I became a fan of Vitali and I was really upset when he retired. Now, I can't wait to see the back of him and his brother with their pathetic contracts and crap fights...
I find this hard to believe since the fight was won by a purse bid so if the contract was outside of what was allowed by the IBF then Sauerland would have complained to the IBF. Not paying for food and hotels is standard for purse bid fights though. You get your purse from the purse bid and that is it! It seems like the contract isn't really the issue here though, I don't think Povetkin fancied the fight..simple as.
