"Right now the most important thing is that Wladimir wins his fight on May 4 against Pianeta," Boente said. "Wladimir got the news about the bid and he said, 'It's interesting, but to be honest I just take it as news. I am 100 percent focused on Pianeta.' "

Hryunov was required to put down a 10 percent deposit with his bid -- $2.3 million -- as per WBA rules.

"If he doesn't go through with it, he loses the money," Boente said, noting that the $2.3 million would be split between the boxers and the sanctioning organization.

Did King put down a deposit on the Huck - Afolabi bid?

I think the deposit is due 10 days after the purse bid. King lost two deposits recently :rofl:patsch

Must be nice to have 150k to just **** away.

    :thumbsup

    Cheers.

Wonder what advised him to put that bid in. He must have had guarantees that fell through. No reason to chuck 150k away.

It's huge alright, but calling it a market is highly flattering.
They will never recover the 23 mio.
The RJJ fight vs Lebedev was also paid for by this Russian gangster dude and he never saw profit off of it.
They'll be lucky to collect a few hundred thousand from gate revenue and that will be the end of it.
People just don't have the money. TV channels can't pay like HBO or RTL - they'll never collect it back. It's a huge huge country of poor men and women led by a bunch of hyper wealthy individuals. There is no middle class - just a big ass gap between the poor and the rich.

Mate, Russia is a HUGE market.

Yes, it has a high concentration of Billionaires, and yes the majority of the people are poor.. But to say that it has no middle class? I don't think so.

You also forget how many countries Klitschko fights are shown in. Especially RTL will be paying good money, and with Povetkin being Russian, it will have all the casual/non-fans tuning in.

That's the difference, they can make this into a spectacle in Russia.

It seems Ryabinsky is trying to build a new super power market and needs this fight to showcase the start of the new brand.

Well you'll have to fill in the blanks with google translate.

If this guy is genuinely trying to establish a commercially viable mass market for boxing in Russia and is willing to throw those kind of sums of money at it then fair play - cant help but hope it works out.

I have no idea of how popular boxing is there now, how the TV programming works out etc. would be very interested to know.
