If Wlad beats Pulev, Jennings, Fury, Takam, and Stiverne/Wilder, will he be #1 P4P?

Let's say Floyd retires in late 2015/early 2016, and Wlad beats everyone listed above.

No. He'll greatly improve his legacy if he goes on that run, but no heavyweight today can do anything with the material they have to work with to become p4p #1.

No. I think his problem is the term 'pound for pound'. He's not beating guys his own size, and the one that are the same size as him, aren't very good.

It would be like Mayweather dominating a load of Flyweights and occasionally fighting a Soto-Karass or a Broner.

    This.

it's a risk getting a Wlad fight. not only is it a waste of good money, but it could also turn the viewers off to the channel that shows it and leave a stain.
    Wlad fights make no sense.

i know certain people don't like hearing that, but it's the truth. Wlad has had too many **** fights for people to want to view his future outings.

Well, yes, there is that interpretation of it but also the fact that even the smaller rated heavyweight contenders - while more skilled on average than most of the lumbering super heavies - still aren't very good themselves.

Just not a lot of quality in the division, period, and thus nothing to receive a bunch of credit for even if someone were to clean it completely out and beat the entire top 15-20 man by man.

Are you sure the division isn't just weak compared to Wlad?

It is. It's weak viewed in its own right, and especially weak with everybody being so far behind Wlad.

I'm not saying it's weak to slag him off. Wlad has been very good since linking up with Steward. It's unfortunate for him that it's so weak because there's nothing he can do to get much credit for being as good as he is.

It doesn't matter how good you are, if you aren't also lucky enough to have challenges around you are only going to get so much credit. Sucks, but that's how it is and always has been.

Nah. I'd say that is the case with middleweight to Golovkin by comparison is weak, Jr Featherweight to Rigondeaux by comparison, even Super Middle to Ward that would be the case.

But there are top class fighters in all those division, but nobody who can beat those guys.

Nobody can beat Wlad because they are simply not that good themselves, rather than Wlad is close to unbeatable.

Wlads fights are always free to all of europe on rtl.

Sadly most in the uk point their dish to sky, they enjoy paying hefty monthly fees even ppv fees sometimes when stuff is free with RTL

    Haye wlad
    Haye Valuev

all klit fights are all free to air

Got to hand it to SKY though, they know how to sell their bullsh1t

If this scenario plays out, it's likely. If Floyd retires and Ward's inactive, who's going to have the kind of wins in the mean time to leap frog Wlad's claim to #1?

Boxing's having a hard enough time getting #1 contenders and champions to even fight each other. Wlad does it routinely and blows the contender out in the process.

The guy's been heavyweight champion longer than his next round of contenders have been pros. That combination of heavyweight longevity and dominance is something most of us haven't seen in our lifetimes unless we were old enough to watch Joe Louis fight.

I think most people interpret "pound for pound" incorrectly. It should not literally be skill/weight, but rather independent of size/weight. People should be comparing fighters relative to their own divisions. Humans do not scale by weight per a mathematical formula, abilities/speed/strength certainly do not.

    :good

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much p4p credit is given to weigbt climbers because of that interpretation, and not enough to guys who remain in one division and clean it out (like Hagler) though of course the quality in a division ought to impact how much credit.

Ffs it's obvious , he not an exciting fighter to watch and he not american , wlad has killed the heavyweight division and snuffed out boxing to the casual fan . His fights are safety first jab hold push down bores . With refs that let him get away with foul after foul . Through history a exciting heavyweight champion has meant exposure to the masses for boxing and that equals increased popularity for the sport of boxing

The ironic part is that it has kind of played out as boy who cried wolf.

After they marketed some heavyweight title defenses to American fans and had them flop, American fans have become jaded and won't tune in now even when it actually is a really good heavyweight championship match.
