One more similarity to add, all four are Olympic gold medalist at different times than their opponents, although as you pointed out, the years separated them are greater in the Wlad and Joshua case.
But I beg to differ, I think Foreman is the more formidable opponents for Ali. He had just demolished 2 great fighters in Frazier and Norton who gave Ali hell in their encounters.
Had Joshua knocked out Fury in gruesome fashion prior to this Saturday, you might have more of a case.
But I do see your point in terms of a big different in age that Wlad has to overcome in this fight. And for sure to give full credit to whoever win.

 

Joshua does not have the experience Foreman had, not the wins..................he was bigger that Ali, about an inch, however, Vlad has had 68 fights, won the gold medal, Joshua has had 18 fights, won the gold, but didn't deserve it because Camerelle out boxed him, Joshua won by home cooking.................both Vlad and Joshua are supposed to be 6 feet 6 inches tall, but Vlad looks about an inch taller, both are muscular, Vlad has the far better skills, is actually faster, both hands and feet, knows Joshua in the ring. Compare the two from today's videos...............Whyte staggered Joshua with a left hook, does not have much power, can't fight, Vlad has power and can land the punches much easier..................Ali beat Foreman with the rope a dope, Foreman ran out of gas, in this case, it is Vlad who has the stamina.................after today I feel confident that Vlad will win this fight............anything can happen in boxing, esp. heavyweight, but the skill level is clear.............

 

George Foreman was far stronger than Joshua. Much more power, better chin, more intimidating and i think he was a little more skilled than Joshua. You are right about the age difference though. Klitscho is just old, while Ali was only declining. If Klit beats Joshua I would be very impressed.

 

H2H it's bigger, historically it's not. Foreman was a fully proven fighter who'd already dramatically destroyed at least one and arguably two atgs. Ajs still comparatively unproven. If AJ had beat Fury that would make it very comparable, as Foreman's opponents established themselves by beating Ali, as Fury did.

Well, to be fair, it could conceivably become comparable down the line in hindsight, if AJ establishes an ATG record later on. That's not the same as it occuring at fight time, but it would still be worth a lot resume wise.

 

Sorry but if Wlad wins, the magnitude does not come close to Ali beating Foreman. Not even close.

It all depends on what Joshua goes on to do afterwards.

If he has even half the dominance Wlad had, then it's bigger than Foreman / Ali.

If he sinks without a trace afterwards then he was just another big lummox that failed when he stepped it up.

No, I don't think so. Ali was looked at having no kind of chance to beat Foreman, NONE when they had fought, and Ali turned back the clock in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Wlad is an underdog but not quite the underdog Ali was, so I'd have to say no.

We should be judging the times at this moment, compared to that moment and imo Foreman was a different beast than Joshua going into their respective fights.
