Bigger than Ali/Forman??? Don't think so !

 

Another terrible comparison on this board. what a surprise.

 

Foreman was what 45. Nobody was expecting him to beat Moorer...especially after his brave but reckless performance against Stewart. He got outhustled by Morrison. All he had was a punchers chance. And big George connected.

 

There is a difference between a great fight and a super fight. Ali and Foreman had the potential to be a great fight. Wlad has the credentials, but Joshua doesn't. We don't know how Joshua will respond in a big fight. We don't know if Wlad can pull the trigger anymore. This is a big fight. It has the potential to be a great fight. Ali Foreman was a great fight from the start and it became an instant classic that the world watched.

 

It's a bigger win than Trump over Clinton but not as great a triumph as Ding Junhui over Ronnie O'Sullivan.

 

I rate Douglas/Tyson, Tyson/Holyfield, Ali/Liston I, and Ali/Foreman as the better upsets.

Foreman was old and not expected to win but Moorer lacked the aura of invincibility the favorites in those fights had.

Of course it isn't. No need to even go into the reasons why. Just watch When We Were Kings, or read The Fight by Norman Mailer to understand the sociological context that fight was viewed in.

A much closer comparison would be Foreman vs Moorer, as some posters have already said. I'd rank a Wlad win over Joshua as superior to Foreman's win in terms of achievements, despite Foreman's greater age at the time. Joshua's a far more dangerous opponent than Moorer ever was, a legitimate heavyweight destroyer with youth and the size to match Wlad's own. Moorer in comparison was a somewhat chinny ex-cruiserweight without the power to really trouble Foreman. The only issue was whether Foreman had it in him to knock Moorer out. He'd also had a layoff some years prior to that and was therefore, in ring years, fresher than Wlad is now.

The KO punch was brilliant and a real feel good moment in boxing, but achievements wise I'd say Wlad winning over Josh would trump that, to be honest.

as the man above said, its like a lesser version of foreman moorer IF wlad wins, and thats a big IF - since wlad was nowhere near as formidable as foreman when young never mind as oldies.

 

As Wlad wins the British commentators would probably make that comparison, but let's be real here... Joshua is no Foreman, there's no comparison in circumstances and Ali beating Foreman might actually be the biggest and best win in heavyweight championship history.

If Joshua had completely destroyed Fury and Wilder or Povetkin for instance coming into the fight, and then Wlad beats him there might have been a slight comparison, but not in this case.
