Bottom line is To coin Larry Holmes famous words... The Klitschko's aint fit to carry Ali's jockstrap LOL
Bull****... Stop with the "Ali is untouchable" thing. First of all the ring entrance was dedicated to the Ali fight against Mildenberger which took place in the same location. Secondly, why are there so many jealous guys? Wlad is what he is and that's nothing else but one of the best ever. He is in the same league as Ali, Foreman, Lewis, Tyson. Any person trying to be objective and has boxing knowledge can see that. Also, it isn't fair to compare today's Wlad to the version who fought Peter five years ago. Wlad 2010 is so much better.
How can it be bull****? It's my own opinion. Nobody's saying Ali was untouchable but his career and resume is leagues above Wlads. To deny that is absolute madness. To say he is in the same league of any of the other fighters mentioned is frankly obsurd. Those guys beat a level of competiton that Wlad has never even stepped into the ring with, and until he does, he'll never be up there with them. That isn't is fault of course, but that's just the way it is. Am I jealous? What exactly am I jealous about?!:huh Also, if the entrance was dedicated to the Ali vs Mildenberger fight, where was Mildenberger in the video? I don't remember seeing his face once. Just Wlad trying to place himself alongside The Greatest. It's the only way he will get there I suppose.
Good post. In terms of legacy you're correct - Wlad can't be in the same league with respect to the opposition which Ali and Lewis fought. If we're talking about boxing skills and fictive matchups between Ali and Wladimir or Tyson and Wladimir, I'd give Wlad a good chance. He wouldn't be a walk in the park, it would be a 50:50 fight. Regarding being jealous: I've the impression that a lot of guys here on ESB just don't want to accept that the Ks are very sophisticated sportsmen, combining all the ingredients it takes to be the best of their era and one of the best heavyweights ever. A lot of guys seem to close their eyes and blindly support their heroes from the past - even if they didn't have the same skills and physical attributes. Regarding the vid: Yes, of course. It is Wlad who runs the show, so why shouldn't he use the fact that Ali fought against a German fighter in the very same location? Is it that bold to use the GOAT to promote oneself if you're Wladimir Klitschko? Not in my book.
Just as an addition.... In the video Wlad actually shows himself as (literally) the mirror image of Ali! Sorry, but that is ****ing clown shoes! If he and his team really believe this then the original poster is completely right. Conceited.
Name one guy Wlad's fought that's remotely comparable to a prime Tyson. Just because the fat plodders of today can't waddle past his jab doesn't mean an 80's Tyson or prime Joe Frazier wouldn't. And lets face it, they wouldn't have to get past his jab too often before Wlad's doing his impression of Bambi on ice again.
I think Wlad is pretty awful as a fighter but that was a sweet ring entrance. I think it was better than Vitali's comeback entrance against Peter. Classic.
I'd also give Wlad a good chance but I think 50:50 is pretty generous. Ali would be far too quick and Tyson would be inside that jab in seconds. Both faired well when fighting bigger fighters than themselves. I'd also agree that the Klitschkos are great sportsmen etc and are the best of their era, but lets face it, their era is ****. And that is the reason they dont qualify as two of the greatest ever. You cant base their standing in the sport soley on how they might have faired against past champions. That's just guess work. You have to look at what they did, not what they might have done. Is it bold to use the greatest heavyweight of all time to promote yourself? When the best names on his record are Liston, Patterson, Frazier, Norton and Foreman and the best on yours is Chris Byrd, I'd say yes.
