Hi guy, I posted a while back about wanting to start boxing but I had to get a knee op done. Finally had it all confirmed that I need to have my knee completely reconstructed and I will not be able to actively to do any physical sport for 6 months and at least 12 before I can think about playing football again (what put me out in the first place). Aside from that I know very little about what will happen after surgery, anybody had this done know what I can expect in terms of not being able to walk on it? How long till I can lightly train on my bike n such, will I be able to carry on my upper body work outs (can't see why I wouldn't but ya never know). Any info will be appreciated even if you think you're just echoing what others or I have said already. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I probably should have mentioned I have a torn cruiciate ligament and that's what I need rebuilt
I worked with a player had the same problem a Premier player at the time. Had him playing again in 3 months. Dont know where youre from butIll do it free of charge, looking for Guinea pigs.
Look around on the internet. Id say your rehab is just as important as the op so take it seriously if you want to get back. And dont rush getting back-its not worth the risk
I had a very similar operation when i was 18. I joined the Royal Marines when i was 17, and tore my knee up bad during the commando tests. it took around 5 and a half months before i could do any serious training/running, and unfortunately couldnt remain in the marines (as i couldnt complete the commando tests due to the knee) BUT, i joined the army instead and served for 8 years with few problems, so dont worry about it too much, you'll soon be playing football/boxing etc, just be sure not to rush the recovery. Good luck mate :good
Not my thread but thats **** to hear about your experience with the commando testing. a knee injury is one of my biggest fears. i can even feel it aching and it clicks at times *shudders* what a horrible design for a joint
Oh man you're in for a treat. ACL reconstruction sucks. Last year I tore my ACL, MCL, and squished the meniscus with all the swelling, so I feel your pain. The important thing to do is not to overdo anything after you get the surgery. Even when you feel like your good to go and that you can run and such, if you don't wait until the doctor gives you the green light you can reinjure it. You can still do upper body workouts and after you get some strength back in it, you can do things with your lower body. I would strongly recommend walking in a pool trying to get full motion the way you would when you regularly walk and also use a stationary bike to get your flexibility back, which is gonna take at least a few months. After you get your strength and flexibility back do stuff that doesn't put any strain on your knee (ex: stationary bike and swimming exercises) Also do the exercises that your physical therapist gives you and do them at least three times a day. I also hate to sound like a pessimist but your knee probably isn't ever gonna be the same, so even after you fully heal take care of it. I'm about a year out from when I injured mine and it still give me a lot of problems on long runs or skipping rope. So find a cozy spot on the couch and elevate and ice it cuz your in for a rough six months.
Cheers mate :good I was crushed at the time but got over it eventually, and as i said, still had a decent career in the army, so i suppose it was a fair consolation. thats life aint it. stretch and massage the joints a lot and you should be ok. like they say, prevention is better than cure
Sound advice :good Mine still plays up occaisionally, cold weather does it no good at all, but i do a lot of running etc so i suppose its to be expected.
