In boxing it's clear. You knock your opponent down and he can't get up before the count of 10 it's a ko. If the ref stops the bout before reaching 10 it's a tko. Gatti-Gamache was a tko, not a ko. But we can colloquially if not officially refer to a stoppage when a boxer's knocked down and the fight's stopped before 10 as a ko when it's obvious he wouldn't get up by 10, like Gatti-Gamache. Such a distinction can't exist in mma because being knocked down doesn't mean anything, because if it happens the fight can continue. A quick look over a few results from a google search couldn't clarify the difference between a ko and tko in mma. Wikipedia/mma fans attempts at a definition only insist a ko is when a fighter was 'concussed' or 'obviously out', but that is vague and circumstantial. There may be plenty of occasions when an mma fighter is stunned and the fight's stopped, but such a situation wouldn't be a knockout in boxing, officially or colloquially. I'll leave it to the gallery to agree or not with my more substantive point about whether boxers are more able to land single concussive blows than mma fighters, and whether boxing knockouts are something incomparable. I spent a half hour looking at mma 'pseudo knockouts' on youtube and found little evidence to rebut my assertion. I looked at a couple dozen clips of women mma knockouts and didn't see anything close to as impactful as what Mrjenovich did. If you're into mma, great. But it can't be because of knockouts because they're not really a thing.
There are several instances in MMA when a single concussive blow is delivered and the fight is stopped right then and there no without any follow up
lol anyone that lands on their face gets a contract FedEx delivered the next day from Wilders manager for an Alabama NBC Sports boxing event title shot! :deal If you're the one that delivered the KTFO... well... you get scratched off the list of opponents!
