    when i started boxing i realized, hey my hands hurt. my trainer told me basically, tough **** do you know what sport you are doing.
    and thats true. my hands always hurt, and you just grit your teeth and keep punching.

    Assuming he's using proper technique and his hands are wrapped properly, I'd have to agree that knuckle/hand pain comes with the territory in the beginning.

    Ice it, take some time off if you can, put a piece of songe over your knuckles under your wraps for extra padding.

    Not this^.

    Knuckle injuries do come with the sport but they won't go away unless you do something about them. I suggest ice before every training session .I had these problems for months and they disappeared after I took two weeks off and iced for the entire first week when I came back.

    Use the sponge to prevent the pain from happening in the first place, and to minimize it if you can't take time off.

    Ice it and use a sponge until the fight. The see if you can take a couple days off or atleast don't use the hand that's hurting for anything that makes it sore (bagwork did it for me)

    Yes, I actually am a douchebag. But in addition to that, that advice won't work for this guy's problem.

    Knuckle pushups etc. aren't a bad idea in general, but when you already have knuckle problems they'll only make it worse, and they aren't designed to prevent the kind of injury he has anyway.

    The injury is usually the result of erosion of the extensor hood (whatever that is...) that works with your ligaments to operate the knuckle. Your knuckle ligaments kinda roll off the side of your knuckle when you make a fist. Has nothing to do with hand strength.

    Rest will fix it, ice/sponge will make it bearable in the meantime.

    I'd definitely suggest icing the **** out of it before your fight and at least twice a day up until then. Sponge in the wraps whenever you train until the fight.

    For the fight, put a ton of extra gauze over the knuckles on that hand.

    go slap your trainer

    hand injuries have ended careers they must not be overlooked.

    strengthen your fingers/hands

    use hand grippes
    knuckle push ups
    fingertip push ups
    squeeze rice with your palm
    strengthen your forearm

    paulie malignaggi wasn't always the feather fisted fighter he is now, he used to ignore the pain in his hand and kept on fighting, he paid the price when he turned pro and it caught up with him.

    gel pads actually hurt more (for me atleast), they feel really tight on your knuckles and hurt quiet bad, traditional wraps are the way to go.

    For the time being, since you don't have the luxury of taking time off, maybe you could use xylocaine if it's allowed; it is, after all, the preferred remedy by PBF himself.

    But I do agree with the previous posts:

    1) Ice your hands before and after training;

    2) For now at least, rest your hands in between training, maybe that means not choking the ****** 'till after your next fight and no knuckle push-ups (that could only make any pre-existing injuries worse);

    3) Take some painkillers (preferably ones that are not restricted);

    4) Make sure your hands are properly wrapped;

    5) You could also try gloves with more padding;

    6) As far as the knuckle strengthening exercises, maybe you could try them after your next fight when you've given your hands time to heal.
