Anyone else notice the frequent and annoying over praising of hard hitting untested boxers?
GGG & Deontay Wilder to be specific. Why do people hold a decent KO record in such a high standard?

Kovalev is hyped way more than GGG, considering that in fact he has done much less than GGG, and has in fact being beaten up by 3G.

Cause triple g is also a very skilled boxer with a proven am record, and Wilder is a great hope for American hw boxing, what is so hard to understand about that? Also people have always loved and exalted knockout punchers.

GGG is more talented and experienced than Wilder by an extremely wide margin.

Depends what you mean. Kovalev has actually been given far less promotion by HBO than GGG who was kinda being sold a star from his US debut whereas Kovalev kinda emerged more organically as a fan favourite due to his fearsome KOs and some fortuitous co-incidences / good luck.

Ironically, despite IMO being the less complete fighter and having less promotional weight behind him, Kovalev has got opportunities for top fights which have somehow eluded GGG.

The hype Kovalevs receiving right now is as much to do with those same opportunities to fight the major opponents in his division. GGGs opportunities will come, I'm sure, though I do find the wait frustrating.

If Hagler never went over 160 than why should GGG

Haglar didn't move up because there was enough competition between 147 and 160 for him to cement his legacy, thus why he's rated top 10 by the experts.

Why you afraid of Golovkin moving up?

    Very good thread.

I will EXPLAIN to you and the others on here exactly what the situation is.

During the 50's and 60's when Boxing was a huge ratings winner on Network television, it was primarily down to Boxing being easier to film then say other sports like American Football, Baseball and Basketball. The action took place in a 20x20ft ring space and could be captured by one camera.

Back then Boxing was always sponspored by a big company and was considered highly sought airtime that brought in massive $$$.

In order to maximize the most revenue from advertising money, the producers of Boxing programming went for boxers who were guaranteed to go 15rds rather then have KO Artists who might end a fight in a couple of rds.

Lets fast forward 50 years to the 2010's...we are now in a totally different cultural dynamic where Boxing no longer attracts high advertising fees. Boxing producers now want BIG KO's that can go viral all around the world in a matter of hours and help them attract big audiences for their broadcasts.

Floyd Mayweather Jr will be the last major star on television who can be boring and still get viewers, the reason he has survived so long is primarily due to the persona he created that fitted into the dumbing down of Cultural Hegemony i.e TMZ. Had he been starting his career now, the networks would never push him as he puts viewers to sleep with his limp boring ring performances.

This is the AGE OF THE BIG KO and Boxers like GGG, Wilder and Thurman are the FUTURE.

    Anyway, hope that helped.

That's because people used to watch and understand boxing as an art form. A violent but true art form. They appreciated the psychological as well as physical aspects of the fight. Now, the instant gratification generation along with the hype merchants like Max Kellerman and Lampley have ruined the whole concept of real boxing. The casuals will never learn to have a true understanding of what to look for in a great match except a knockout.

Yeah, because there's no skill or technique involved at all in being able to set up and land KO punches:patsch

(that was sarcasm by the way:lol:)
