Yeah it certainly improved his abillities imo. I think it's important for him to watch how to train and how hard you acually need to train in order to get into good shape for a bout.
I don't think he is one to shirk training, he always comes in shape. Never been out of shape. I think it is more the quality of sparring and professionalism. Sparring in NZ would involve him trying to learn something by taking it easy and giving tips to guys that shouldn't be in the same ring as him. Sometimes speed can be a mental thing. Training with slow guys doesn't make you sharp.
