I beat 4 world champions, recognized by BoxRec, a total of 7 times - but never with a title on the line. In fight No. 143, I suffered the first and only KO (TKO, actually) defeat of my career... at the hands of a non-champion with a famous (at least in boxing!) last name. Who am I?
Reading about him last night. Died in Sydney, Dec 1950... The story, as told by Ray Mitchell- a man who spent some time with Harry in his last years, does suggest Harry was never KO'd in 500 fights. I guess the amatuers must be included?????
As is the case for many of the real busy old-timers, I would guess that BoxRec's 214 pro bouts listed for Harry, doesn't tell the whole story. He could have had (and probably did have) dozens of fights, which have gone unrecorded.
Yes, hh... of course it's Lew Tendler:good He defeated world champs Pinky Mitchell (x2), Johnny Dundee (x2), Rocky Kansas (x2) and Pete Herman. And he was ko'd/tko'd only once in 172 pro bouts - by Jack Zivic.
Nicolino Locche's record is similar to this..117 fights and only one stoppage by a cut eye tko to Antonio Cervantes..just noting the similarity that's all.
hh Lew Tendler might have been along with Sam Langford of course, the best fighter to not have one a title. A great, great southpaw but he had a small obstacle in front of him...Benny Leonard.:good
Sounded like Jorge Castro to me , he had 2 stoppage losses , but maybe one of them was due to cuts ? edit : Jorge Castro came close but didn't have 150 fights.
