From what I understand, the $5M would just be a fee paid to the other fighter should he test positive, unless the contract specifies it, the $5M does not cover the punitive damages of the fight being cancelled. So theoretically, if Manny tested positive, he would have to pay the $5M fine, get a 4 year ban AND is liable for damages incurred for the fight being cancelled.

Im a big fan of Manny , but for me this is just plain pointless . The fight has been made , all testing has been agreed. Just get on with it.

I am all about stronger drug testing in every capacity of all sports (and for policemen, but that's a different subject) but in the past I have said that Pascal and Edwin had no ground to stand on for making their desires for testing known AFTER signing the contracts to fight Hopkins and Ward, respectively. I am not going to become a hypocrite now.

So while I wish that this stipulation had been put in during negotiations, perhaps, I also find it irrelevant now. There will be he!! to pay if someone tests positive. The above-standard random testing is happening. I don't care about their bank accounts.

I watched all kind of sports and although drug testing is strict still lots of athletes get caught all the time. The athletes of other sports also don't refuse to do what testing is being asked of them.
I am not saying boxing is roid world, but it seems suspicious to me that boxers refuse to be extra tested or they will come up with lawyers, pay off resulted tests from being shown, and in the worst case will refuse to fight at all!!!!

Why does drug testing become irrelevant depending on when you ask for it? That makes zero sense.

This is also what I gathered after reading the article. Dunno why some are saying that it's just 5mil and nothing else. It is 5 mil on top of everything else too. Don't let reading comprehension skip pass these *****s.

Pacquiao did not want the fight cancelled in the event of a positive test and instead wanted a $5M penalty.
