I have seen things you people wouldnt believe. I have seen fighters hired to get a beating, and being weighed with a bag full of stuff in order to make up the weight. They are hired to be knocked out right there while people cheer in a nonsense one sided execution. I have seen fighters making his debut vs a guy with more than 50 fights, just because his trainer lied to him and told him he was a debutant too. Serveral times. One of them got a rib broken, a friend of mine. I have see trainers laughing at his fighter IN HIS FIGHTER'S FACE, telling him that he is a bum and that he is going to be executed that night. Just because the fighter didnt understand the language. I have seen a trainer saying to another "you give me someone to receive a beating by my guy, and I'll owe you. When you need it, I'll give you another one to your guy". And it is not anything that I've been told. Those are things that I HAVE SEEN, me, myself. Boxing is a business full of *******s. Especially at low level. People die? I'm surprissed that so few people do it.
how bout they just suck up the criticism, which wont give them brain damage, and do whatever they feel is best for them.
No I don't like unmployed dipsh*** from the comfort of their $20 armchair criticize boxers who put their health on the line for our entertainment. The ones who should "suck it up" are those immature armchair boxing fans who cry about "coward boxers".
well thats never going to change, its what also makes wrastlin so profitable. so boxers have to make a choice, suck it up or quit boxing in front of anyone besides your family
way way way more people die in motor sports than combat sports Motor sports have powerful companies behind them, so they never get criticised in the media
It is prize fighting/boxing. Death will happen. It's a sport where two combatant's goal is to knock the other fighter unconscious. Add in the fact that different body reacts differently to trauma and you have s recipe for something bad happening. Some boxers increase this risk by weight draining which reduce fluids in the brain. Can there be something else added to add to the safety? Maybe but I don't think it will stop the occasional deaths. All boxers knows this risk going into it. It is no different than any other sport that have death as a possibility. They are adults and they made the choice.
There should be a spotlight in the arena that picks out the fans who are jeering the stoppage and they should be given the opportunity to continue the bout and show everyone how it should be done.
In that post I argued for a series of weigh ins, from 30 days out. Maybe that would be too onerous, but there must be ways to monitor fighters body mass index or fluctuations due to hydration to improve the current woefully inadequate system. We are regularly either watching someone dwarfing another fighter thanks to cutting, or walking into the ring a weight drained zombie for the same reason. It's not good enough.
it is hard to stop these things from happening because of the nature of the sport. To prevent it from happening often the cornermen have to step in for their fighters and say let's fight another day. And the ref. has to step in sooner, although look what happened when Steele stepped in with Taylor in 1990 . He got booed after. Wasn't he also the ref. who stopped the Ruddock/Tyson fight early. He was always booed after this. So what someone said about the fans accepting these decisions, the fans have to accept the ref stopping the fight. Steele tried to help Meldrick and people said, well Meldrick had seconds to go to win. Well as Steele said, I didn't want him taking one more punch. If they stopped boxing would I be upset? Yes I would, but I would not yell and scream about it. I have seen some great fights , and if the boxing organizations or medical organizaations decided we don't want anymore tragedys. I would accept it. I would just watch the old boxing on youtube. I feel so bad for this poor man Dadashev.. He had a 2 year old son. How sad is that. I hope his boy and his wife are taken care of financially from now on.
I have to add this. Part of me also wonders if you take away boxing you take the opportunity for these young people to earn big money and to have a dream. Where would Tyson be without boxing? Hearns? Hagler. Jones? It gave them something great. It is debatable. Everything is a risk in life and bad things happen so is stopping anything with a risk logical. When we go outside or to a downtown area we can have a car hit us or something random. Look at Pernell 2 weeks ago. He avoided injury in the ring and then is hit by a car on a street. So it is a tough thing to talk about. If we end anything with a risk we end up not driving or doing things we need to do. Flying in a plane. It is so hard to figure. If I say boxing should continue is it disrespectful to Dadashev and others who have lost their lives or are disabled. I think the worst thing about this tragedy is Dadashev's 2 year old son won't have a father around. But I don't know what should be done. I am just talking.
