Marciano's chin was more proven for his size. He was also much better at chasing people down and had a much wider punch selection
I actually just read an article comparing the two if any are interested http://fightnights.com/2019/07/20/4...-people-who-are-connected-more-than-you-think Marciano is much more technically nuanced that Wilder, though I'd call both in their prime "below average". This is mostly due to Marciano's superior infighting ability and adaptability. Wilder struggles in both areas. Wilder is moreso explosive. Marciano has better endurance and workrate. Power is not an argument I wish to get into but I think both are comparable to each other.
Maybe...except much bigger and stronger. I think Deontay can be at least as savage as Marciano and Mike Tyson...but less consistently so. I still have no idea why he didn't finish Tyson, and that didn't bode well for me in my regard for him. All things equal, Marciano would never have let Fury get off the hook the way Deontay did imo. Though I am personally sure Wilder won that fight, it didn't look good that he couldn't finish him imo. He had him.
The difference is that Rocky fought everyone while Wilder has 2 relevant fights in his career so far.
I get the comparison but Marciano was an ATG where as Wilder is not. Having said that, whenever Wilder's been hurt he's fought hard & found a way to win & whatever you think of him you have to respect that.
Well, he's held the title for...what, seven years? That's a good start toward ATG imo. Had he followed through on Fury he probably would have outright qualified imo.
If he cleans out the division including AJ, Ruiz & Fury then he's definately got to be considered. If he beat an ATG then he'd be immediately considered but there aren't any at Heavyweight so he's got to clean house.
You're right, I was thinking of that Intercontinental title. This is true, though I wonder if some (not me, obviously) might consider Fury an ATG.
I messed up and got confused by the Intercontinental title, as explained above. Obviously ain't nobody the level of a Louis, Lewis, Ali, Holmes, Holy out there (shoot, I don't think there's a prime Bowe out there).
True. But Wilder could have fought a decent amount of good fighters. He hasn't even beaten the best in America, tbf.
I have to amend what I wrote earlier, because I think you're right. Soo, the sum total of great fighters ANY of the current heavyweights fought is one, Wlad, right? And an old Wlad at that...big deal.
Are we really debating the resume of Wilder vs Marciano Marciano took out 3 champions in his title reign, Wilder has yet to beat Ruiz, AJ, Fury or even Usyk Marciano fought 5 of his 6 world title fights against the #1 contenders in the world within 4 years. The other was Don Cockell, #2 in the world and former British champ. And Marciano was slipping out of his best by that point WILDER, AFTER 4 YEARS AND 10 DEFENSES, HAS YET TO FACE DILLIAN WHYTE, #1 CONTENDER IN THE WORLD. Rocky Marciano had to crawl and scratch his way through top contenders such as #1 ranked Rex Layne, #2 ranked Harry Matthews, and former world champion Joe Louis just to get a title shot. Wilder fought a slump of nobodies and the WBC was so impressed with his record and punch power that they just gave him a shot. For comparison, imagine if Wilder had to fight Luis Ortiz, Alexander Povetkin and Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015 to get a title shot
