I enjoyed it. I mean, not everyone can be an expert on the ground.

Really? I was slapping my forehead what they were doing on the ground... Plus I don't understand why Kongo even wanted to go on the ground...

Kongo's gameplan was horrible, horrible. I wish it was Pride rules, and Herring was allowed to just knee him in the head. Good night.

Kongo looked very uncomfortable on his feet with Herring. I think it probably had something to do with Herring bullrushing him. I don't think that it was as much a matter of Kongo just wanting to go to the ground, as it was that Herring wasn't going to stand outside and fight him. Besides his knees, Kongo isn't too great at fighting on the inside. He is too mechanical.

An absolutely apalling display of ameteurism. Kongo should have won that fight no less than 5 times w/o it going the distance if he had had some kind of pedigree. Kind of reminds me of ol' skool Jermain Taylor, so unpolished and unrefined. I'm glad Kongo lost. Now maybe he'll dedicate himself to the sport of MMA and begin to use his head.

I thought it a decent 15 minute scrap.

No doubt. I was reminded of Roy Jones saying Klitschko was like a dog that can't fight from the bottom. Of course, Roy was talking about heart, but in this case it applies literally as in not understanding how to fight off their backs. Neither Kongo nor Herring displayed so much as a rudimentary understanding of submissions. It was still a hard fought battle between two BIG men. I enjoyed watching and won a few bucks on the Crazy Horse.

After 60 fights and like 11 years in the business you would think Herring would know a little more then the "turtle defense" on the ground though :rofl :rofl :rofl :patsch Damn! I like Herring too, don't get me wrong but both of their ground games appeared to be a bit amateurish in there.

Under Pride rules when Kongo was standing and Herring was defending with up kicks Kongo very well could have stomped him out or soccer kicked him. Why isn't this considered, the fight might have never gotten to the point where Herring had Kongo in "north/south" or side control so it is pointless to say that. :deal

I enjoyed the fight but Kongo was rubbish. Herring was not much better. Still the better man won. Kongo is shocking.

Yes, but some fighters will simply NEVER find themselves comfortable in a guard position. To be honest, had Herring pulled guard, Kongo probably would have busted him up. A lot o fighters are willing to roll over into that crouched base position on their knees, as with Liddell. It is easy to get back on your feet, and with no strikes being allowed to the back of the head, and no knees... it is hard to get good strikes in, and you only have to defend against a rear naked choke, which isn't hard if you know its coming. So, I guess taking that position would be smarter for someone who isn't comfortable on their back. Kongo being as long as he is, could do some real damage even in Herring's guard.
