I have always felt very sad about Tyson-Holmes. After the 1rst knockdown Larry took such a battering that I feel bad for him. And when he tried to uppercut Mike, his arm got caught on a rope and now he was one-armed facing a monster like prime Tyson, and a KO was on its way. Really a sad moment for such a great champion.

Tyson is a common denominator here isn't he? Seeing him down, looking for his mouthpiece after Douglas devastated him is one that sticks in my mind.

    Hearns - SRL.

    Arguello - Pryor.

And for me personally, Morales against Pacquiao, but then I realize what an arrogant ******* El Terrible could be, and I assume that was probably a moment of triumph for some. Zaragoza and Velardez fans especially.

Yup, RJJ is one I can think of. I'm pretty sure it was Brannon. (sp?) Roy was rockin him, and looked to the ref like you really want me to hit this dude some more, and the ref was like "go", so Roy finished him.

Not a real KO, but the doctor pulling Wayne McCullough out of the fight with Larios is definitely the saddest I've seen.

Him pleading with her to let him carry on and her apologising was very sad and the correct decision, but a terrible way for such a warrior to retire.

    Tyson-McBride

It was sad when Tyson quit on his stool to end a legendary career.

Afterwards he said he didn't want it anymore and he didn't have the fighting guts and wished the people can get there money back.

What's arrogant about posing next to a guy that called your family dirty? What was sad about seeing him knocked on his ass by Paq? He went in tried to fight fire with fire lost and accepted his ass kicking like a man.

Yes, I believe he was trying to work on one of many, Tysons cuts, you can see Tyson grimmace everytime they tried, it also could of been when they trying to give him instructions and he didnt want to listen, it's been awhile since I seen the fight, Tyson was one of my favorite fighters and that fight was probably one of his darkest days, other than maybe the McBride fight, but I do remember him saying that.

I agree that it's especially sad when a legendary fighter gets decisively beaten, and for that reason think Duran getting pulverised by Hagler is perhaps the most brutal, disturbing-to-watch KO I've ever seen. Also, Meldrick Taylor's last second KO to Chavez was very sad, especially considering the way his skills deteriorated afterwards.
also worth a mention is Jess Willard's beat-down at the hands of Dempsey. Personally, i can't watch it for long, it's disgusting even in black and white. willard was absolutely battered from post to post from the first second, knocked down seven or eight times at least. At the end of the first or second round he was pretty much knocked out cold, but the bell went and his corner dragged him onto the stool, revived him, and sent him out for another beating. I think he received in the region of 12 or 13 fractures in his jaw and cheekbones, a broken nose and broken ribs. really makes you think about the kind of punishment fighters had to go through in those days when it was still less 'sweet' science, more 'street' science.
Oh, and Herrol Graham getting knocked out on his feet by Julian Jackson was pretty heartbreaking to see. a great brit fighter making his last attempt at a world title - he contolled the fight too, and Jackson was given one round by the ref before they stopped it and BANG! out of nowhere, the right hook and Herrol fell like a sack of spuds.

It's usually a sad situation anytime a great fighter fights his last fight. To see the shell of a fighter you once liked be bounced around the ring and then stopped or seeing him quit on his stool is pretty bad. Tyson/Lewis stands out for me because that wasn't the Mike Tyson I remember as a kid that night. That was a 35 year-old-man worn down by an extreme life getting his ass handed to him for 8 rounds. Now granted, that wasn't Tyson's last fight as a pro but it was his last meaningful fight so it's just the same as far as I'm concerned.
