It's good to see GSP back in the ring, I think he will be ready and more determined than ever after his loss to Serra. That being said Koscheck is a tough guy to fight with great wrestling and imroving standup.Sanchez couldn't do nothing against him in their fight and Koscheck doesn't mind boring fights.I think GSP can still get by him because he does well against wreslters, I think Koscheck will try to get to Georges chin because that will be his best hope.
tough fight for GSP. i almost think he should have taken a "confidence booster" fight. george hopefully will comeback like the monster he is and regain the title after he beats Koschech. still, i wouldn't bet the farm on him.
Koscheck can't be judged by his win over Diego because neither one of them were really challenged or utilized their main strengths. The one time Kos did actually take Diego down Diego quickly reversed it. That together with Diego's clearly inferior, to even Kos's, stand up is probably why Kos never went for another takedown. But he was never forced to deal with Diego's BJJ or GNP. He will however be faced with GSPs standup, and once he gets tired of being continuously beaten to the punch or kicked in the leg, he'll take GSP down....or try. Kos is probably the only WW that can successfully take GSP down when he wants to, but controlling him on the ground is another story? GSP dominated Sherk, humiliated Trigg on the ground and it took him about 20 seconds tops to pass Hughes's guard in the rematch. If anyone can neutralize Kos's wrestling it's GSP. I see GSP forcing Kos to try and take this fight to the ground and then submitting him in the 2nd round after winning the first.
GSP is a quality fighter. Glad to see him back. He got caught last time. It happens. Shows you what one move out of one art can do. One thing and its all over in combat.
Just saw some pics of him he looks very focused and looks tough as a mofo. I feel like he is ready to destroy koschech.
I hope it will be a repeat of his fight with Hughes, GSP has one of the best takedown defenses in the game and Kos will not want to trade with GSP for very long.
Or a repeat of the Trigg fight. I don't know which one was more impressive. He treated trigg like a chump picked up off the street...complete domination. Although he completely dominated Hughes too.
Well A)Hughes did not get "totally outwrestled" by GSP, that just didn't happen, GSP avoided the takedown in the second fight, but Hughes really only got 1 good attempt off. B)Hughes' was a multiple All American (top 8 ) in college, thats hardly c level.
Yep, I think Kos has more exploseive double leg attempts than anyone around. Thing is, thats about all he seems to have that is extraordinary. He's a fighter who just wants to win, whether its boring or exciting. If he finds himself in a hard place he will do what he can to take a decision, which is at least what we saw against Sanchez. I think Kos has superior double leg takedowns and is very explosive with them. But you cant beat a guy like GSP by taking him down only. I think Hughes is actually more well rounded on the ground, has an array of subs, probably just as strong as Kos at controlling. Only thing I think Kos can do is try to get a full mount and GNP. Has some powerful hands but is wild, has a punchers chance, great takedowns but seems to lack on the ground as far as I have seen. Because he carries himself like a total dick, has never heard of modesty or manners.. I'd be very happy to see GSP knock his block off to put his ego in check. Kos is a hard guy to like.
A little math to think about.. GSP has taken down and beaten Otto Olsen in ADCC competition.. Otto Olsen beat Koscheck in wrestling competition. Not that it means all that much.. but its something to think about.
Here's a recent article on GSP http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_y...42UxLYF?slug=ki-081707gsp&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
