Well, being the linear Ring, WBA, WBC and IBF champion at the same time means A. your reign is FAR from average and B. your reign is IN NO WAY comparable to Felxi Sturm, Ice. His opposition far from warrants a high p4p place in history, and he's not even in my top 100, but, let's be honest, he's very obviously an excellent fighter who goes down as a great light welterweight...Come on, Ice. Don't compare him with Sturm. Sturm was never an elite p4p fighter of his time/isn't now. Sturm never unified titles. Sturm was never linear. Sturm managed to have titles throughout the reigns of four linear champions and never faced one, before, during or after their reign and was never, ever, in any way, shape or form thought to be the top of his division, whereas KT was, for years. They shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, in such a way.

    true dat
but was talking to someone who just listed "11 title fights as his basis for greatness asking what more do you want"
also acknowledged his skills and him being a great fighter...but he simply didnt fight the best fighters of his generation..he did unify...he did kick judahs ass which alot of people picked judah to win...but mitchell was a weak beltholder, as was MA Gonzalez at this point in his career
after becoming HUGE in the u.s. with his blow out of Judah...while he could have been in some good fights and capitalized on a great win as his career winded down...and in a 3 year time span fought Ben Tackie, Sharmba Mitchell II (unfinished poop) and jesse I quit in a fight only to be rewarded Leija . fighting 1 time a year and when you do, its against one of those guys? Very disappointing... at least he went out like a champ fighting a risky fight like hatton at the end.... but even you have to know, he had a god awful list of title challengers ....that before their shot or after....never made a mark

Well, he fought who was there and dominated the division, for the most part. Toward the end, like a lot of dominant champions, he was getting a bit wishy-washy about whether or not he was going to stick around, in between fights, and I think was breaking down a bit, physically, and with his commitment to and motivation for the sport. A bit typical of champs in his position. He still managed 14 victories over 13 former, future or reigning world champions, in only 34 pro fights.

No, there wasn't a consensus great (great at the time they fought him) in the mix, but sometimes that just happens. You get what you get. Ask Volo, up at heavyweight right now. The skills, accomplishments and consistency were more than enough to consider him an elite p4p fighter of his time, which very few fighters ultimately will accomplish and to go down as a great fighter for his division, which even less will accomplish.

As I said, I don't even give him a high historical significance, with relation to other great fighters, I just think it'd be an injustice to say he was some average champ, let alone a hype job, like the TS is going with. Then again, since I figure if he'd managed one of the really big fights like Mosley, Mayweather, ODLH, he'd likely have lost, I don't really have anything to say beyond that. I assumed this was a troll thread, but if not, it's a sad thing, to me, that a fighter of his very high quality can have any backers for this sentiment. More importantly, though, Steele gives a look very similar to the look Georg Benton is giving in your avatar, here:

And, even more importantly than that, Jorge's dancing is ****ing amazing.

Either that or he's thinking "He alright, but he 'aint no brotha"

  9. He underachieved as a pro....which sounds insane as he was a long time undisputed champ. But his amateur career was phenomenal and when he won his first title he started falling in love with his power.

  10. I love that GIF sooooo much :lol::lol:

You do have a point, as he did slickly out box Vernon Forrest,
off setting his reach with movement and slick skills in the Ams.

But as a pro, Kosta changed his tactics completely.

    Great career.
