Kostya Tszyu urges Anthony Mundine to take on Danny Green

AUSTRALIAN boxing legend Kostya Tszyu has urged Anthony Mundine to forgo the scales and accept the one bout every Aussie sports fan wants to see - a rematch with Danny Green.

Among the most popular fighters this nation has ever produced, Tszyu yesterday told The Daily Telegraph Mundine should ignore the 10kg separating him from the IBO world cruiserweight champion.
"Because it would be a great fight, great for Australian boxing," Tszyu insisted.
"We've always known Danny is big hitter. Has a strong punch.
"But to see what he did against Roy Jones, then the way he knocked out Manny Siaca ... it shows Danny Green is now capable of doing great things."
Asked about the obvious sticking point of weight, Tszyu added: "I don't want to see Danny lose weight because to drop weight as you get older, it's not natural. Not right.

"And I think they can still make the fight. Anthony needs to put some quality opposition against himself again.
"He's already fighting here in Australia and doing a good job for himself."
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the rival Green and Mundine camps have already spoken several times without success since the Perth brawler's comprehensive three-round win against Puerto Rican Siaca.
"Because it seems like Choc is content to keep chasing fights at light middleweight and middleweight," Green's manager ****** Manolikos conceded.
"To be honest I can't see why there would be any fuss about weight anyway.
"When Anthony played for the Dragons he was up around 95kg wasn't he?
"And after Dan beat Roy Jones Jr he came out to say he'd fight him at cruiserweight. Fight him at heavyweight.
"But if nothing changes, so be it. We'll keep chasing names like Roy Jones Jr while he keeps chasing cab drivers named Roy."
An undisputed junior welterweight champion in his prime, Tszyu now splits his year evenly between Australia and his homeland, Russia - where he boasts both a series of business interests and charity programs for underprivileged children.

What KT is saying there is bloody nonsense. I can't believe he actually meant that as well.
I think KT tends to put his words together in a way that gives Journo's a bit of "Licence".

Green is coming into these latest fights 15-20lb under the cruiser limit.
He knows that a full blown legitimate Cruiser would monster him.
If the right fight (Not necessarily Choc) came along at LH, he'd make it comfortably.
Choc has had 3 fights for 3 wins, all by stoppage at LH, so there's nothing fantastic about the difference.

:patsch Know more than kostya too?

Kostya is just advocating a big aussie fight nothing more or less but i'm sure he is capable of knowing what he says without big Rodin's interpretation.

I think the paper just used kostya as a way of getting Manolikos and his opinion into the paper to spiel some green rhetoric without it looking blatant. The daily telegraph is hardly a mundine friendly publication :lol::lol:

True Rodin, Kostya's article is all about 'the contest', he's a warrior afterall, and little about the logic.

But as you say this huge perceived disparity between their weights is a bit of a myth.

1/ Green fought Jones in early December at 179.5 lbs.

2/ Mundine fought Falliga in late October at 167.25 lbs.

    The difference is 179.5 - 167.25 = 12.25 lbs.

    and 12.25 pounds = 5.5 kgs.

(anyone feel free to query the maths)

On the basis of the above numbers, all the talk of 10 kgs difference is absolute baloney!

If Mundine really wanted to go where his mouth is he could put on approx 5 kgs without too much effort.

People on here are acting as if Mundine is a true MW

The **** fought at SMW for most of his career, and as someone pointed out on another thread, has fought at the LHW limit a couple of times too. He's hardly proven that he is better suited to MW, with only 3 fights actually within the MW limit, and only 1 of those against a true MW, the other 2 vs WW/JMWs. Besides, didn't he 'win' 2 'world titles' at SMW?

Now, we all know Green is not a true CW, his optimum weight appears to be LHW.

    1 + 1 = ?

    True enough IBM.

Just adding to my previous post:

Some might argue that Mundine is lighter now than when he fought Falliga, but that's by choice! He's fighting nature to be down where he is now.

All he needs to do is fight nature a little less and he'll be about the right size - but he'd have to want to though!

    Just to reiterate on that.
He's had 3 fights at just over 170 & won all three by stoppage.
    4 years down the track, he drops 10 pounds & has 3 MW fights & gets 2 UD's & a SD.

I mean, it's not coincidence that experts say "Older.... Heavier"

I think the real reason for the article can be found in the last line. If he made an announcement in relation to the watches it wouldn't make the paper make a comment about Choc and green and it makes the paper and you get to mention your watches. pretty smart if you ask me

86 not 95, but 86 kgs works out at over 189 lbs anyway!

First time they met, mid 2006, they were 166 / 167 lbs.

77 kg, as you've suggested, would make for a contest.

    (77kg = 169.4 lbs).

However, as we know Green thought he was too light first time around, and I'm sure he'd be looking for the light heavyweight limit as a minimum (ie 175 lbs).

This coming from KT who fought at 140lbs all he's life........... didn't see him try and fight at a heavier weight.

In saying that i think KT is spruiking the fight that's all

    In Bayer 2, in Germany, the score were 114-114. 112-115 & 113-114.

I know it's not unique to Germany, but scoring the fight there, it would be a foolish judge that gave the tilt in close rounds to the visitor.

Pretty pointless complaining about it, but I guess I can say that, I wasn't the one that fought Beyer.
