For me it's tough to tell, because typically the belly button to the hipbone is the invisible line that divides low blows from legal punches. And it looks like Rick was wearing his trunks a bit high in that fight. So it doesn't mean that Tszyu's body punch was automatically low, just because it hit the top of Hatton's trunks.

Lets not forget people. Kostya was 35 and coming of many many months off fighting (so long that he was actually stripped!), he fought Mitchell but he was kind of shot himself, so this was a old and relatively rusty fighter.

Not the ultra sharp, fast, precision striker we all grew to know and love.

 

Hatton won the fight just as floyd beat Hatton. End of story. Give the man some credit.

How people can say thats not a low blow from the picture and the way Hatton automatically crouched (just like he'd been hit in the balls) I will never know. Watch the short highlights vid I posted in this thread its included in there.

koysta's punch was low, clear as day, he hit him low again as well before hatton retaliated. hatton wasn't that dirty in that fight, it was rough and tough but they both were. it was a great fight and i don't think a different ref would have made any difference to the result.

they say styles make fights, and i think hatton would have a good chance against koysta even in his prime and yet i think koysta would have ko'd pbf like he did with other slick boxers.

 

kostya hates pressure, it's never an easy fight for him.

well i suppose the biggest whinge in boxing history had to resurface with hatton getting beat.strange how the "warrior" who seemed perfectly happy to quit on his stool gets respect from some,and a guy who simply used a bit of rough and tumble tactics to win gets dissed.

 

I give Hatton credit for beating Tszyu, and IMO his win against Urango is vastly underated. I had watched a lot of Urango coming up and although he has crude form, he's one of the hardest cracking SOB's at JWW I ever saw. Now that's not to say I like Hatton or that the 2nd half of the Urango fight was even watchable, but credit given where it is due.

 

There is a difference, because Kostya Tszyu is not a Yank. If anyone who happens to be American says that they think Tszyu would have beaten Hatton if the ref was impartial/competent, it's likely to be what they really believe. Rather than us saying that PBF would have beaten Hatton even if Cortez hadn't been so involved, because of nationalistic pride. There can't be any of that regarding Tszyu v. Hatton for us, because neither one is American, so we don't really have any built in favoritism towards either of them.
