Oh please,go and support netball, basketball or some other non contact sport you know nothing. If he was as good as what you say he should have coped, but the fact is he didn't.Also he wasn't exactly an angel himself in there.Lets face it according to most he was going to brutally KO Hatton no matter what was thrown at him,but Hatton had too much balls for him on the night, end of story.Oh and by the way he was happy to quit on his stool with 3 minutes to go.
Mitchell beat Phillips. Phillips lost to Millet (99), Oliveira, Forrest (2000), Mitchell (2002), Hatton (2003) and that's why Tszyu never rematched him. Tszyu before Phillips always wanted to show that he was stronger man and outslug his opponents (see Lopez and Phillips). Then he learned his lesson and chose to outbox them instead (see Tackie). Tszyu would have knocked out the drugged-up version of Phillips that lost to Millet in 1999 in a couple of rounds and would have outboxed any other version. Barrera for example was demolished by Jones and lost the rematch. Jones was knocked out by every decent fighter he ever fought. What does that prove? Tszyu was 5 ft. 7 at most and bulked up to the max. He started his pro career late and he should have started his career at LW. He just lost speed with the added mass. Tszyu was fighting at his top weight. Tszyu usually fought boxers who were taller than him at JWW. Off the top of my head the only boxers that were smaller than him were Laporte and Leija. WW: Vernon Forrest - 6 ft Trinidad - 5 ft 11 DLH - 5 ft 10 1/2 Mosley 5 ft 9 etc. Mayweather and Whitaker for example were defensive wizards and consequently better suited at fighting with a physical disadvantage and they were champions in much weaker WW divisions. Whitaker beat McGirt who was a failed JWW (won the vacant IBF belt and lost it in his second defense) and Floyd beat Baldomir. Mosley is a really bad example. I don't know if you were around at the time but Mosley walked around at 160 and cut a lot of weight to fight midgets. That's why he jumped directly to WW (his natural weight) when he did. A 5ft 10 1/2 SFW? Towered over his opponents. Beaten 3 times by Casamayor. Had to spit his mouthpiece in the 1st Castillo fight. He spit it again a couple of times against Clottey to survive the pummeling. If all fighters had 30 instead of 10 seconds to recover from a KD...Dwarfed his opponents at SFW and LW and against Clottey he just got beat up and without his trademark move he would've been KOd. Not the best example of a weight jumper or a warrior... A true warrior. Respect. Fought smaller men all of his career. Once he started fighting slightly bigger men he failed miserably (see Sturm)
Chacon fought Arguello,Olivarez, and Lopez at a time when these guys were in their absolute prime. Gatti stepped way up in class and fought FMJ and ODH. KT fights an ancient Chavez and manages to avoid all the best of his time.
Instead of a rationale argument as to why KT would of beat Phillips, u attack Phillips personally just because he destroyed your precious KT. You dont even have the guts to admit ( or give a little credit )that Phillips was just the better man than night. Instead u imagine/fantasize what KT would or could of done. You know what would be better than imagining what KT would of done? What would of been better is if he actually, in reality, fought Phillips in a rematch, then we could of seen if what u claim would have been true. This is how desperate u are to defend KT, you have to resort to fantasy to prove your point! You constantly contradict yourself. You say PBF and Whitaker were def. wizards thats why they could move up. Then u claim KT was a very skilled boxer, who could outbox most fighters. You claim he is a masterful tactician, a chess player, etc. Could he not use he masterful boxing and his chess player like boxing attributes to defeat fighters just one division ahead of him? His height would not of mattered if he had such skills. I honestly dont know where u are going with this one (regarding Barrera). So what if some fighters were taller or shorter. You compare the height of VF, DLH, Mosley as a way to prove your point that KT was I guess too short to move up in weight? I can use the same circular logic to prove the opposite. Manny Paq.- 56 he is at ww. Berto- hes 57 he is at ww Gatti- 57 Whitaker- 57 Hatton- moved up to ww 5;7 PBF- ww hes 58 Cotto- welterweight 57 You keep saying that 147 lb division had weaker competition , are you insane? Again 147 lb division has never been a weak division. I dont know if you were around at the time, but here are some of the fighters in 147 at the time KT was an active fighter (some great, some just good exciting fighters). DLH, Trinidad, Quartey, Whitaker, Mosley, Forrest, Mayorga, Lopez, Carr, Rivera. Ist off you say Mosley is a bad example because he walked around at 160 and he fought midgets. Cant u do better than that. Most fighter who fight at 135 -140 walk around at 20lbs or more above their fight weight. Mosley made the lightweight limit that is all that counts, because in order to be a lightweight all that is required of a fighter is make 135lb limit, there are no preconditions on what a fighters walk around weight has to be. Regarding him fighting midgets, well KT fought Leija (so did Mosley) was Leija a midget when he fought KT (in your bias mind he was a legit challenger). Calling his opponents midgets is just desperate and has no basis in fact. I am not comparing records I am only asserting that the fighters I named had the guts to move up in weight, not whether they were successful or not successful. You cite DLH losing to bigger fighters, what the hell does that have to do with KT not moving up in weight? It has nothing at all to do with it. What the hell does Corrales losing to Clottey or anyone else for that matter have to do w/KT refusal to move up in weight. You do allot of mental acrobatics to try and justify what are mainly excuses as to why KT did not have the balls to move up in weight. Here are your claims: Corrales got beat by Clottey= KT not being able to move up in weight, Mosley weighed in at 160 had to lose weight = KT can't move up to welterweight Mayweather and Whitaker great defensive fighters= KT can't move to 147. You think you are making a good sound point by point argument but in actuality you sound ridiculous making all of these connections out of thin air. Your odd way of arguing just adds up to excuse after excuse. You try to put down other fighters who simply, w/o all of your mental gymnastics, moved up in weight when KT refused to. 2nd, I find so-called fight fans laughable who use the 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon technique to prove their fav fighter is better or another fighter is not as good or to prove how successful their fighter would have been and in our case to prove why KT was unable to move up in weight. Do you know what the 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon game is? The game requires a This content is protected This content is protected of players to try to connect any film actor in history to Kevin Bacon as quickly as possible and in as few links as possible. This is what u try to do to prove your argument, but w/boxers (a lot of other people on this site use this same illogical technique). First off, you must be new to boxing because one of the unwritten rules of boxing is styles make fights and just because one fighter loses to a certain fighter it does not mean he will lose to another based on the association of a loss (you do this illogical comparison with PBF, Barrera, Mggirt, Whitaker, Corrales, Phillips). Its circular reasoning and its not sound logic and I can prove it, as follows: You mentioned Barrera and his loss to Jones, but Morales beat Jones, yet he lost to Barrera (twice). Mosley beat Margarito, but he lost to Cotto. Your logic would add up to Cotto beating Margarito based on him beating Mosley and Mosley beating Margarito. But what happened? Cotto lost to Margarito. Again, Pavlik beat Taylor twice, Taylor beat Hopkins twice, yet Pavlik lost to Hopkins. Your logic would have had Pavlik beating Hopkins since Pavlik beat Taylor and Taylor beat Hopkins. Tarver beat Jones, Jones beat Hopkins, so Tarver should of beat Hopkins, but it did not happen that way. I will use your boys record to do the same: KT beat Mitchell (twice) Mitchell defeated Phillips, based on your logic KT defeats Phillips. You know why your type of logic does not add up its because styles make fights and you cant use this kind of illogical comparison in boxing. People who do it dont know enough about the sport or they are just desperate to prove their point no matter if the way they do it is circular and illogical.
Nothing to do today, huh? KZ was a tremendous fighter, not flashy or a hot dog, just an excellant fighter, a true professional. Plus, there is nothing wrong with staying in one weight division. Which is really another sign of KZ's professionalism, he never allowed his weight to get out of hand.
:deal he beat alot of very good fighters, including a prime, undefeated Zab Judah who was being highly talked about as the next great. It's a pity him and Aaron Pryor weren't in the same era. But as far as the 140lb division goes, it's hard to say who really was the best because Benitez at 17 beat a past his prime Cervantes, Pryor beat a former featherweight-lightweight legend who really had no business at 140 in Arguello, and Tszyu never had a career defining moment unless you consider Judah great. Hall of famer yes he is and he's one of the most skillful fighters I've ever seen, but great well I go back and forth on this one especially with Tszyu. Greatly skilled, like Donald Curry was, doesn't exactly translate into great. You need to beat acouple of greats to be one yourself or else Buster Douglas might be considered a great. Ali beat acouple of greats in their primes, Leonard did the same, Floyd beat one in Castillo who had beaten everyone in the division, Salvador Sanchez beat Lopez, Gomez and Nelson, etc. But as far as 140lbs go since it is one of the youngest divisions, Tszyu is definitley one of the best 140lbers ever. I think we are lucky today to probably be going through the golden age of the 140lb division with so much talent and potential to bring out great fighters.
hahahha. he won the first round, but kt was timing him by the end of the round. he lost every second of round # 2, and then stopped by a single right hand. if his chin wasn't garbage, then he would have taken an ass whooping as long as it lasted.
this is a good post. i don't know what floyd is talking about his chin. it seemed pretty good to me. cool vince could punch, and he bounced right hands off his head all night before finally stopping him late.
I think you're underrating Arguello @ 140. He was still a very good fighter there and the fact that he gave a tough fight to a younger, bigger fighter like Pryor shows how great Arguello was. He was still beating decent opposition years later while being shop-worn.
