Was watching FNF and Joe Tessitore mentioned that this weekend Julio Cesar Chavez,Mike Tyson and Kostya Tszyu have been inducted into the IBHOF.

He made a point of his disapproval of Tszyu being placed among the greats of the sport. He said he looked through the resume and said his major wins were against Judah (said it in a way that said he wasn't impressed) and Sharmba Mitchell. Atlas went on to add his lost his two fights by stoppage. Which to Teddy seems to mean something...

Atlas somewhat agreed with his view and compared boxing HOF to Baseballs and Gridiron's to which he feels only great players make there Hall of fame's.

Think Teddy went down cynical route when he claimed that they just wanted names to sell the event. Gotta love Teddy

He did also make a point that he's not the first fighter inducted that isn't up to his criteria but won't be the last.

    So what's your thoughts??

Do you agree with Tessitore and Atlas??

I find his career to be slightly overrated. A good fighter no doubts but looking back at career it doesn't make me go wow.

I think it's a difficult one. I'm not really a fan of having a hall of fame for starters. I mean, it's a decent idea but has inevitably got a bit overcrowded recently with almost anyone slightly memorable getting in. Tszyu certainly isn't anywhere near the least deserving in there for sure.

It's like everything in boxing, more people get recognition that they really should these days. Don't wanna criticise anyone but we've got something like 70 'world champions' right now in boxing and it's ridiculous. Makes me laugh when Sky big up the fact that we've got 4 (or is it 5 now?) champions at the moment when there's so many different belts and weight classes out there

I'm gonna say no just because for reasons of consistency I'd have to include Ricky Hatton also.

Gatti is expected to get in (albeit undeservedly, if you think the HOF should be reserved for true greats) due to a lot of the BWAA folks having covered his career closely and with his death being so recent, based on pure sentimentality.

Ideally (in some people's view), any sports HOF would be an elite class of undeniable greats. In practice, a lot of time it winds up being a popularity contest. As for the IBHOF specifically, it's somewhere in between.

Therefore, while Tzysu should fall short on both counts (isn't an ATG, and wasn't all that popular outside of Australia other than as a cult favorite) when you combine the two criteria of greatness and popularity he does sort of fall somewhat out of range.

Tszyu could be placed in the HOF based on his Amateur career alone.

    Awe-inspiring fighter.

Tszyu is being questioned before Tyson and Chavez also?

They never questioned Chavez going in, They mentioned Tyson but both agreed his popularity and also being youngest heavyweight world champion got him in.

They only really objected to Tszyu.

I don't particularly agree with the hall of fames choices (some worthy inductees of course) and I don't rate Tszyu as high as most.

hes not atg but deserves to be in hall of fame. Hall of Fame would only be a once every few years thing if we only inducted ATGS

Teddy and Joe came across as idiots with their hate for Tszyu last night.Teddy like the TS said, mentioned that both Tszyus losses came by KO which to him seemed to look bad on Tszyu yet he wasnt bothered by Mikes KO losses.
From 1994 until his retirement in 2005,Kostya Tszyu was never out the top 4 rankings in the 140lb division(He was ranked #1 in 1995,2000,and then Champion in 01,02,03,04,05 while he also sat in the top 10 Pound for pound list for many years and rose to #3 in 2004.
He destroyed Zab Judah (Ranked #2)in 2001 when Zab was 27-0 to become the first man in over 30 years to unify the 140lb division and become Ring Champ and beat the #3 ranked 140lber Sharmba mitchell.Add to that his excellent Amateur achievements(Three Gold medals)and to me hes a cert for the HOF.
Its a shame He couldnt get a fight with De La Hoya or Mayweather though.

He had fame, and as WalletInspector mentions, if Barry McGuigan's in there, then so should Kostya Tszyu.

Unless you put one person in a decade, the standards of the Hall of Fame will go down further and further every year. And that is not meant as a slur on anyone in there, just a fact...

What about Stallone ? His two wars with creed, and he avenged his 1st defeat to big hitting clubber Lang, that win finished Langs career and he never had the same intimidation factor after that. Beat the big Russian in Russia despite the big Russian using PEDs which was clear. He then went on to train the next great White hope Tommy 'the machine' Gunn. He took kthe heavy handed gunn to stardom despite him being a limited boxer. And finally came back after health issues and relationship problems to give a prime tarver hell. Definite HOF material
